ECU Settings and how to change them

    Gentlemen,

I read somewhere on this forum about the differant ECU settings for various areas of the globe.

As is usual when I look for anything I cannot find it.

    Therefore my question is thus:

Can anyone tell me what the settings are i.e OO row, 01 USA etc.

Can anyone tell me how these can be changed?

It would be most useful if I could get an answer to this by Tuesday evening as I am going back to the Dyno on Wednesday and if possible would like see what differance the country settings make, if any.

I have been told numerous times that the US setting gives another 12HP over stock so want to see if it is true or just FUD.

    Many thanks,

    P.

You can't just change a few settings and there is no official documentation available to the public regarding the differences in the ECU settings for the US, ROW or Japan.

Stock is whatever is stock for a specific market, so I'd say that the claim that the US setup offers 12 HP more than stock is pure BS. Especially if I look at Ca legislation, I'd say that the ROW setup is actually the most powerful. But again, this is just a stupid assumption of mine, not a fact.

To adapt ECU settings, you need to put the engine (not the car!!!) on an engine dyno. It is also a good idea to know what you're doing because you don't want to end up with your car accelerating by itself at 180 mph, even if you remove the foot from the throttle. This is no joke.
Software remapping is definetely no job for people who aren't specialized on a certain brand. Most tuners buy the base remapping from "somebody" (there are a few companies worldwide who sell that) knowledgable and slightly modify it to their needs but the modifications are usually done by very professional people who usually know what they're doing.
Also pretty common: "stealing" already remapped software from other tuners and "adapting" it. Not a nice thing to do.

Long talk, short meaning: because of the question you asked, I highly recommend to stay away from ECU changes, unless somebody professional applies them.
And another "hint": you can't measure a precise 12 HP gain or loss on a roller dyno, this is almost an impossible task on such a powerful engine. Engine dyno testing is the secret but I guess I talk and talk and nobody would listen.

Oh boy, if things were that simple in life, Porsche wouldn't need to spend so much money on R&D.

Re: ECU Settings and how to change them

    Thanks RC,

The more I speak to people the more I think I will leave well alone....

324KPH is more than enough for me anyway!

with your GT3RS? i reached 321 KPH (speedo) lately. wonder what the real speed was, though.

Re: ECU Settings and how to change them

I would think it was more like 190-192mph than the 201mph that 324KPH works out to be.

    Makes a good story though!

I have decided to take RC's advice and leave well alone. On the Dyno yesterday my car pulled 402.5HP. Think I can just about live with that....

Re: ECU Settings and how to change them

    But Paul

It's a shame you cant use all that power and keep the car going straight

If you'e got 402.5 I think I'm good for 410, I kept pulling away from you......

    Sean

Re: ECU Settings and how to change them

I believe my laps with Mr Horne have been refered to as a trip on the "Magic Roundabout"...

You were only pulling away from me because of the massive wheel spin created by the 402.5HP....

Has your head recovered yet? I am still feeling a bit jaded I must admit, oh and dizzy of course!
