    BMW M235i Racing

What a wonderful little car, I would really consider this as a trackday toy, and should you choose so, you can enter various racing series with it. Great move from BMW imo. Smiley

Looks great. I thought BMW M was clinically dead.. this thing is beautiful. A road version comes close to the spiritual E30 M3 successor!

Does it anywhere in the press text say "street legal"? yes

70k EUR (incl. German VAT) plus racing cost...not exactly a hobby race car driver's dream.

This looks (and sounds) more like a BMW publicity stunt to promote the 2 series.

The car is not road legal. It says so in the Customer contract data :

"Vehicles and Parts are to be used in motor sports only and not in public traffic. Due to their special design for motorsport purposes the vehicles require professional maintenance and drivers need a special racing training."

Because you have a fully equipped racing car for... 70k EUR? Smiley

OK, so what would you do with it (frankly asked)? Smiley

You should read the fine print or do you really think BMW lets you buy a car, take it home and do with it what you want? I doubt it works that way.

It would be nice to have more details.

It would be a perfect car to enter in the VLN-series, for example? Besides racing you could have fun with it at Spa during private days?

Of course you could just buy it and take it home, why wouldn't you? If I could afford to buy a GT3 Cup, why wouldn't I be able to take it home?

    Re: BMW M235i Racing

I get the feeling that BMW sells these cars under certain conditions but I may be wrong.

Also maintenance/repairs could be bound to certain conditions too, BMW wouldn't be the first manufacturer.

This is why I meant people shouldn't be too happy about this offer until they have more details. When it sounds to be too good to be true...just saying.

I have many friends who have a trailer and would like something like this for the track.  For myself, I don't have room or interest in finding a place to park a trailer and a truck to pull it around.  I need to drive to the track...

If BMW sells this car to anybody without any conditions, this would be a great offer indeed but I still have my doubts.

    Re: BMW M235i Racing

It is a wondeful toy and priced reasonable. If I were to live in the heart of Europe where there are many racetracks (Ring, Spa, Hockeinheim, Monza, Nurburgring GP circuit etc) I would definately buy one. You cannot find a cheaper, ready to race entry level race car. My dream is always to have a Ferrari Challenge car (430 or 458) and attend European track days and this is 1/4th of a Ferrari challenge car. Also much cheaper to maintain and more importantly I believe huge fun to drive.

Does anyone have any good rumors about the M2?  Specifically when/if it will be built and spec (some say maybe high-output 4-cyl turbo to distinguish it from M3/4)?

I am fairly certain that BMW does not link any conditions to the purchase of that car apart from a validated entry for the BMW Racing Cup during the 2014 VLN series. They had a similar car on offer with the previous-generation 1-series.

Those 70.000 Euros per car is quite an interesting figure as it is basically the same amount you pay for one full season in the Volkswagen Scirocco-Cup, albeit "renting" the car including all consumables, crew and transportation of equipment.

Mercedes has similar intentions with the track version of the CLA45 AMG, by the way:

Well, this could be already a challenge for some private persons who just want a fun car for the track.
