    Cayman Test Drive WOW!

SORRY for no pics but Ill try and get some on my return visit to the dealer. OK, I was having my car serviced yesterday and I couldnt help but to look at the new Cayman for the first time, in the flesh. First off GT Silver in the open sunlight is a stunning color, on the Cayman more so. The car came with you guessed it Cocoa interior. Maybe because of the angles the interior seemed a little darker than I imagined, but still very rich and inviting.
My buddy Hans from Cutter in Santa Barbara approaches me and asks if I had driven the Cayman, I said not yet. He asks If Id like to take her for a spin, I said sure. There are some local twisties close to the dealer going up a nice mountain road that drops nearby the ocean. Soooo we took the mini-beast out. The sound and acceleraion were very ferocious to me. The cars takes turns like a roller coaster at an amusement park. There was no let up in some of the apexes, and the car was just centered, I mean no body roll, no issues, just pure driving ecstasy. We stopped by at a local mall and looked at the car from all angles. I must say that pictures dont do this car justice, what a wonderfull piece of machinery. MUY MACHO!!!

Now the dilema I was dead set on a 997, now a little unsure. They had a Red 997 for 74,000, and the Cayman I test drove was 73-74K. If I ordered a Cayman with just the basics It could be had for 7k less. Im still in a quandry. But Im happy to report that IMO this car for a first time Porsche driver will not dissapoint.

    Ditto....the car is awesome

    Re: Cayman Test Drive WOW!

That's why I ordered mine long ago... I like the 911, but it's a bit much for US roads, and the slipping of the tail isn't cool in all circumstances. Balance, balance, balance... everyday enjoyment: Cayman S.

Mine should be home in 4 weeks... believe it or not I put the downpayment on it almost 1 year ago... I wanted my current BMW lease to expire. I knew this would be a superb car and my test drive last week proved it to me. My Cayman won't be leased BTW, this car is a keeper.

OK, it's overpriced... but once inside it makes me feel at one with machine... in a way that is hard to communicate. The car's communication with the driver is supreme... I didn't even feel the needto look at the tach... the engine, the clutch and the steering say it all.

Just in case someone cares: mine will be 18"(more predictable & fits winter tyres - when was the last time you say one next to ski slopes , Arctic , blk leather int, lthr sport steering wheel, sports chrono, adaptive seats (I'm a small person - EZ to slip , sport shifter, TPMS, Bi-Xenon, auto climate, preffered pkg

If the Cayman is what stole your heart then I'd say get the Cayman.

    Re: Cayman Test Drive WOW!

As opposed to the angst on all these boards a few years ago of Porshe building an SUV , isn't it nice to be discussing which of Porsche's several sports car lines is the personal favorite of different buyers and their needs/desires ? ! Reminds me of the 911/928/944 days of the mid 80s

    Re: Cayman Test Drive WOW!

The 928 was a model above the 911, but today all models are below the 911.

I tried very much to like the more expensive 928S4 when I bought my first 911 nearly 20 years ago. The V8 GT always felt like a truck to me and the large , high bulky center console made me feel like I was sitting in a bathtub.

    Just different tastes is all....

As the present owner of a 928GT I wouldn't trade it for *any* 911 except for maybe a 997. If you haven't driven or owned a later 928 with a 5 speed, you don't know what your missing. The stick transforms the car into a beast, and with the GT model and sport shocks you also got a car that handled with the best.

I like the 928. I've driven several GT's and they are fun. I just don't have enough headroom...

    New 928 Based on Panamera

I was just purusing some magazines when I saw an illustration on what (I believe it was Motor Trend or Road and Track) the magazine said was the upcoming 928 style model. It is a 2 door version of the Panamera with a V8 and scheduled to arrive in 2010. It looked a great deal like the Pictures of the Panamera. It has the GT front fascia look with a lower roof line than the 928 we remember, a longer and wider wheelbase and what can only be that big round rear end of the 968. Of course this was just an illustration, but it looked good. It is probably best compared to the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage which I believe is a modern interpretation of the 928. I'll try and find a pic and post it later!
