Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Got my gorgeous GT3 RS ROW car a week ago. I can't believe
how fantastic it is. I thought that coming from a 993 RSCS
I would be disappointed. This car is incredible.

Anyway, I took it in to have it corner balanced today. The
    car has the following:
    - carbon fibre seats
    - rear roll cage
    - steel brakes
    - air conditioning
    - plastic rear window
    - fire extinguisher

Being a right hand drive it has a 64 litre fuel tank.

Total weight with half a tank of fuel was 1427kg.

So, take out the fuel and we get a figure of 1395kg.
If the car had pccb brakes it would weigh 1375 on the button.

So there you have it guys. The weight of the RS is posted
for a pccb car with all the additions of a standard ROW
    car with no fuel.

Hope this settles all the arguements.

I must say that the car does not feel that heavy on the road. I am surprised at the weight, because it really
feels 300kg lighter. My 993 RSCS weighs 1100kg with no fuel,
and the GT3 RS feels the same on the road.

I will be tracking the car on the 8th of July. Will let
you know how it is on the track compared to the 993 RSCS.

Ciao for now and happy Renning

Congrats! and looking foward to hearing your impressions on the track and comparison

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Will you use the same tyres for your track day or fit some slicks? By the way, what colour did you go for?

    Bob

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

    Hi Bob,
I will be running slicks on the track with 18 inch wheels.

This is what I ran on the 993 RSCS. So the track times will
be for similar car settings ie both on slicks. Hopefully
the GT3 is quicker than the 993. I have already decided that
even if the GT3 is not quicker, I love it so much that I
    will enjoy it anyway.

My car is white with the black decals. The silver wheels
are going to be painted black to my design in the near
    future.

    Ciao

WOW... looking forward to seeing pics! Volado posted some pics of a photoshopped whit/blck rs a while ago, and I loved it... Also, I have seen a whit with black details RS in the flesh... would be nice to get those two cars together!

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

With the 18" wheels is it correct that you need Porsche Motorsport wheels to enable a fit with the calipers that go with the PCCB brakes?

I would like to find a set of wheels that slicks can go on but understand that there are no slicks for the normal sized wheels for the GT3 RS 997

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

    Hi guys,
I have used Simmons wheels on all my cars on the
track for the last 15 years. I have never had a problem
with them. The only problem I have had is with tyre
fitters sticking metal prods to take a tyre off and ripping
the silicon bead that seals the 3 piece rim. This is easily
fixed by applying silicon once again and sealing the rim.

The wheels were made by Simmons to fit my RS. I don't know
whether they clear the PCCB callipers.

Only problem is they are made in Australia.

Here is their web site if you're interested

Speak to Ian. He is of great help.

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Congrats! love the RS in white and black combination! isnt it that there're only 4 colour you can choose for the RS??

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Porsche officially announced that white would be available
for the RS late last year. I was hoping for white all along.
I had to put my otrder in to the factory early Feb and was
lucky to have seen the standard GT3 in the flesh in red,
    black,silver and white.

Once I saw the white I immediately made my mind up. Colour
looks sensational with the black graphics in the flesh.

Mind you white is a $6000.00 option in Australia, but IMO
    it was worth the money.

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

i ordered my RS in black/orange last week coz the sale guy told me that its not possiable to hav a RS in white!!

i alway wanted a RS in white/blue like the 996RS, had thought to hav a white GT3 and customise it to a white/blue RS for a while but just before i put the order, i changed my mind and ordered the black RS...

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

It is available in white because I have one.
Call him up and ask him to check with Porsche Germany.

    Ciao

white RS is available since jan-07.... they decided to add this colour at a higher price

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Not correct!! According to Porsche 1375 kg is without AC (17 kg)with a full 64 l tank. Just coincidence that you reached 1375 kg. Do you have any other options than what you mentioned? Leather? What is the wegiht of 64 l of fuel by the way?

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Turbo, where are you getting this info?
The Porsche order book states AC as standard.

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

    Hi Turbo,
My car is a ROW car. Therefore it has the carbon seats, rear roll cage, fire extinguisher, plastic rear window and steel brakes.
The only option is the stop watch on the dash. This is as light as you can get the car from the factory without pccb.

I am having the front roll cage fitted today. Just weighed the front part of the cage before fitting and it is 24kg.

The weight of the fuel would be about 30kg in half a tank, therefore the total weight with no fuel is 1395-1400kg without the front part of the cage. With full cage it will be 1425kg with no fuel.

    Ciao for now

Re: Real weight of GT3 RS finally confirmed

Let's just say that I had a very lengthy calculation excercise with Porsche AG before ordering my 997 RS. What counts when they calculate the official weight is the lowest possible weight, not the weight of a car in standard set-up. Therefore no AC, PCCB and a 64 l tank (full). Would be really surprising if these weights dont correspond with the real world, or?
