Re: Ferrari F70 mule spied! (So much less camouflage)

Here are a few new pics (?). The engine bay is particularly telling - doesn't look all that far off from those mindbending shots of the 918's insides.

    http://www.gtspirit.com/2012/12/21/ferrari-magazine-reveals-first-ferrari-f150-details/

Does anyone else find it to be overly long (front to back)? It seems kind of out-of-proportion, despite the camo. I'm sure it will be amazing, but it seems kind of ungainly as of now. Hopefully Futch will return from Maranello with great news!

Re: Ferrari F70 mule spied! (So much less camouflage)

Here I see more unification, engine and intakes are the same with f12, but located 180 degree back. Intake manifold is different though.

    Futch:
If I fall for the car yes definitely, of the two it is the most expensive but also imho the safest in terms of investment. I could be wrong of course, but my prediction is that the 918 will drop to 500 to 700k euros within one or two years whereas the Ferrari shouldn't go below the 1m eur mark and who knows, might even be stable or increase! But that's pure speculation.  I will be in Maranello in a few days to see the car in person and if I like it, yes I will sign and cancel the 918 immediately as owning two brand new supercars is silly. Considering the way Porsche has treated me lately with the Cayenne, this shouldn't really be a surprise to them.

PS: Funnily enough you know, when Ferrari invited me to preview the car, they knew of my collection especially the 288 GTO and the F40 but it's actually the GTR they were in awe about! Which one? did it do Le Mans? Is it road legal? pictures please! It is refleshingly pleasing to see that, at the end of the day, some petrolheads are still pulling some strings in those big firms.Smiley

I see what you mean. But if you take into account inflation, cars like the F50 and even the F40 have not necessarily been good investment. Enzo is and the 288 GTO is going up quick, but only recently.

I think you're right Markus eventually, 499 cars is still small for a Ferrari addressing world market, but the rumour is that the price is 1.2m eur. Now I presume that's without tax so in Europe at least, with 20% VAT we're talking 1.44m eur. For a brand new car, this is very very serious money. That's almost 50% more than the 918 Spyder. Mind you it's also almost 50% less cars, that's if Porsche sells 918 cars (which I doubt).

I value your advice (you told me to buy an F40 after all and so far you've made me moneySmiley) and agree with you, even at this stratospheric price, I reckon that once the 499 cars will be gone, they will always be some successful Chinese or Singaporian or even indian businessman fo whom no other car will do, not that I'll be a seller, but it will drives prices up surely.

After all, Aston sold 77 supercars with old school technology for 1.2m eur. and they don't have a history of doing supercars.

AFAiK 1.2 Mil euro incl. tax

F.e. in Russia 918 price with tax will be 40 mil roubles (1 mil euro) for basic car.

This concept that was presented back in 2005 on Ferrari Design Competition, simply called Testarossa. If I have good information, this concept was submitted from IED Torino student.

I find incredible resemblance between new F70 and this concept. In general cars are not same, but some details are very similar. I took F70 VIP invitation as reference for comparison with Testarossa concept.

Seems that 500 buyers dont share your thoughts. I even heard that some people asked to put deposit no matter how car looks. Ferrari is big brand, they can make 2.5 mil car & they would sell that too.

I agree. There is no accounting for how people spend their money. More importantly, the car manufacturers know this and exploit it to its fullest. Smiley

All relative, Nberry. To some very fortunate people on this planet, paying $1MM for a car is no different to them than paying $300 for a bottle of wine at a restaurant.

Re: Ferrari F70 mule spied! (So much less camouflage)

Exacly Heist. Also you must know that some people see this as investment. You have people that literally "invested" in 250 GTO, 288 GTO, F40. For all these years their initial investment wasnt just stable, their investment increased year by year. If you take closer look, it was a lot better investment in expensive cars, than in expensive real estates. I hope you guys got my point.

That is part of explanation why all famous Ferrari models dont have huge millage, and they are old for decades, literally!

Re: Ferrari F70 mule spied! (So much less camouflage)

The ability to pay is not the issue. In my view spending a million dollars or more for a car is simply not wise unless the car has investment value. There are too many cars far cheaper which would equal if not exceed the performance of any million car. Also, many of them look as rich and elegant.Smiley

    Nick,

You say so because your money/car caliberation is set to US prices which are most of the time cheapest (USD vs Euro thing) and the least tax.

On the other hand, some countries like Turkey, has huge tax weight on cars. In Turkey, we have 171,4% tax on cars which have engines more than 2.000cc. So you roughly multiply the the German price by 3.

A 458 italia costs around 500K euro after the discount (more than 700K USD), an F12 costs around 650K euro (close to 900K USD), an Aventador costs around 850K euro (over 1.1 million USD, opss you have already passed the 1 million USD benchmark SmileySmiley )

For Porsche, the scenario gets worse. 90K USD-911 Carrera costs 250K Euro here in Turkey.  SmileySmiley

So for some people, the cars are like art, painting. They pay huge money. At least they can drive them, instead of hanging them on the wall. There is no right or wrong here. It all depends the money you are willing to pay. My personal limit for a garage (3-Car garage) is 500K Euro. Maybe in 10 years, if I make more money, my limit will be 2 million. That's all relative.

Re: Ferrari F70 mule spied! (So much less camouflage)

Just back from the presentation. Very impressive car, so aggressive, brutal, the front is very single seater inspired, the back is just epic!

The numbers on the internet are pretty accurate and the world will find out very very soon anyway.

As you all know, I am a Porsche lover but this, this is something else. The integration of the hybrid system is extremely smart and the active aerodynamics impossibly cool, I love the rear spoiler, very smart design.

The cabin is very space age, driver interface ultra modern and another step forward from the current range, there are some very cool toys on the steering wheel but I don't want to spoil the surprise. As stated on the Ferrari website, there are no more seat, but bolsters straight on the chassis with adjustable pedal box and steering wheel, the driving position is perfect. Cabin is snug, once you're in place, there's not much space but everything is definitely focused on the driving. Some options available, but at no extra cost (take note Porsche!).

I am cancelling the 918 Spyder with immediate effect, my F150 (name to be revealed publicly soon) will be black (paint + carbon) with standard colored wheel (Wheels design BTW is simple and elegant and very glad Ferrari hasn't gone silly with rim sizes).

Can't wait for 2014. The best part of the day was discussing with the people behind the project. All nationalities, three years of hard work, passionate engineers, designers, and some french guys behind the design, bravo messieurs!Smiley

I am not a fan of the Enzo style wise, but this, this is sick. it's not elegant in the way the 918 Spyder can be, it's just raw and mean. I really think this car will be a huge success.

The 0 to 200 kmh figure is sick and the Nordschleife laptime hardly believable, all this with spectacular emission figures for such power. The weight achieved is a triumph of engineering.

PS: None of the rendering I've seen so far on the internet are very close to the final product. They showed some clips of the car lapping Fiorano, the noise is gorgeous.

First of all, congratulations on your choice! I wish you a lot of exciting & safe miles in that beast!

Back to topic, just to know Fotch, you are making this crazy waiting even harder :)

Your impressions telling me that Ferrari nailed it again! Its tremendous success to convince buyer that already ordered another car to pick yours - WOW. I am sure you`ve made right choice since you saw both cars in flesh & had chance to speak directly to people who actually made these cars. However, I hope that they showed you on computer how car looks in red, black & in yellow color (I assume these colors are available). If not, I would recommend you to wait unveiling so you can see car in all colors before you make final choice.

    Additional questions:
    - Is it smaller than Enzo?
    - Do you have more than 3 colors available (maybe Tailor program)?
    - Have you seen any resemblance in interior with 458/FF/F12?
    - Do you have that magical KERS button on steering wheel :)

No. The pictures have failed to convince me, appart from its size which seems to be very compact. But twin turbo V8 doesn't stir my blood as much as a high revving V12. And I mean, very very high revving!Smiley

My color choice is not final but this is a car I'm gonna want to drive at least 10000 km a year, seriously, it really seems that good. And black is better for high mileage, more discreet I guess. but it can change, no rush.

I'm sorry, out of respect for Ferrari, it is fair not to answer to your questions, they have done an incredible job at keeping the car a secret and they deserve to be the ones bringing those answers. All I can say is that Rennteamers who know me and my collection know it would take a serious proposition to swap from Porsche to Ferrari. I didn't even thing twice.

But you will be pleasantly surprised when you will find out the anwsers to your questions.Smiley

Like I wrote, not too long to wait now.

I know what you mean  - there is something special about that V12 music. I wasn't taken by the P1 photos either, but it has real presence in the metal ( or should that be carbon Smiley )  when you see it, and the back in a particular is far far better in person than in photos.
