Rennteam 2 Survival Guide: Make It Act Like Rennteam 1 !

My goal is to make Rennteam 2 look and behave as much like Rennteam 1 as possible. Like many here, I was frustrated at first, but with much help from Eunice/Rennteam Central and other members, have managed to make Rennteam look and act pretty much the way I want it to.
I don't claim this is the "right" version, but do think it comes closest to Rennteam 1 behavior.

(Eunice, want to make this a sticky on 997 board for now? And if possible please don’t move it to RT Development Board– people who don't go there may not see it.)

    1. You must remain signed in so that YOUR settings load every time. This is done by clicking on MyRennteam and check the “Save” box.
    2. Be patient. The software is being changed seemingly every few hours, even minutes, and sometimes it seems your settings will be reset. Just be patient and re-do your settings.
    3. Following are the addresses to use as links on your browser if you just want to click and check one single board, for example Turbo only. I save them as TWO separate buttons on my browser so I could access them quickly without having to look and choose (which is what happens when you use the Rennteam Board Tree). For the Turbo: http://www.rennteam.com/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=997turbo . For the 997: http://www.rennteam.com/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=997
    4. Get rid of that grey board on the left hand side: My rennteam -> Profile Settings -> Settings -> Edit -> Uncheck “Show Board Tree”
    5. Make Default Picture Display 1200. My rennteam -> Profile Settings -> Settings -> Edit -> Forum Maximum Image Width -> 1200.
    6. This one will be much easier with picture, but you need to edit the List Display to Threaded and Post Display to Flat, as well as the number of displays. See my picture.

Screen shot of my settings for items 4, 5, and 6 is shown here. Check out my other settings as well. You could adjust the parameters to your liking but this should be a good start if you cannot do without Rennteam 1 Interface.

Re: Rennteam 2 Survival Guide: Make It Act Like Rennteam 1!!

And as a result of the settings above, this will be what you see when you click on that browser button -- same appearance every time and as much like Rennteam 1 as possible. Well, except when Eunice plays around with the software occasionally (meaning every few minutes or so), again. Just kidding, usually you don't have to do much other than go into MyRennteam to re-sign in, and re-click that "Save" box.

BTW, I am complaining to Eunice about those thumb nail pictures messing up the row height and making it inconsistent. But he's ignoring my request and worse, I am starting to like the thumb nail pictures Smiley.

Re: Rennteam 2 Survival Guide: Make It Act Like Rennteam 1!!

The ability to disable the thumbs will be in one of the next versions, along with the option to configure other columns. (so you're not ignored, it just takes some time)

I made this thread sticky and I would by grateful if others would also post their favorite settings. That'll help us to adjust the default settings!

Just to point that out: In canngas screenshot you can see what we call the breadcrumbs, (All > Porsche > 911 > 997 > Turbo). You can use them to navigate the whole board structure, even with the boards tree closed.

Re: Rennteam 2 Survival Guide: Make It Act Like Rennteam 1!!

Thank you both, much better without the tree and straight to the TT forum for me.

    6. This one will be much easier with picture, but you need to edit the List Display to Threaded and Post Display to Flat, as well as the number of displays. See my picture.

    A couple of quick points:

Item 5: The ONLY reason I do this is for picture quality. I think car hobby = pictures-of-cars hobby Smiley, and this setting allows the pictures to look larger and IMHO vastly superior for people with high resolution monitor. If your monitor has resolution of only 1024 x 768, it may not work as well (area of web site is larger than the monitor) and it's a sign that you should upgrade your monitor. LOL and kidding; it means you are better off going back to 800 picture size. But seriously, upgrade your monitor too.

Item 3: I like to save the direct links for 997 forum and Turbo forum as two buttons on my browser. This way sometimes when I am "lost" among the forums and threads, I could simply *click* and be assured what appears will be something that looks the same every time. Very minor point but strangely enough, I find this little trick to be surprising "soothing" and does a lot to bring back the feel of Rennteam 1. See picture.
