    Panamera vs Quattroporte

    Hi All,

    Assuming it would be fair to say that the Panamera & Quattroporte will be the primary competitors in the sports sedan-coupe segment, in terms of price, size, practicality, exclusivity, and overall intent, which would you choose (and why)?

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    I haven't driven the Quattroporte, but Porsche all the way for me as I am a long time owner and their cars seem reliable to me.

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    Its the largest luxury segment out there. You are missing most of the competitors. Just for starters try the BMW M5, the new 4 door from AM, many mercedes models, a lexus, the bentley CGT, and a lot of very attractive Audi's with a kick ass V10.

    This one here is far above most pics of the panamera and has the performance to match;

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    That's what you call sleek;

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    I ve test drive Quattroporte last year , the cambiocorsa was jerky in the city and hightraffic, but they built a auto nowadays.

    The engine sounds so nice, the interior is good (not so good especially the part of NAV screen), the exterior design is perfect and last performance is quite enough.
    I like the car generally.

    But imo Porsche Panarema will be better than Quattroporte because it will be a new car and more driver friendly, which is a need for these type of cars. Also dont forget the Porsche quality....

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    Based on IIHS crash tests, my suggestions would be, in no order: RS4, S4, M5 (choice of SMG or manual in USA), S6, and the future RS6.

    I have yet to find a single Porsche or Maserati tested either by the IIHS or the Euro NCAP.

    Based on this video, the exhaust note is, imho, fantastic:

    Euro NCAP results are like JD Powers studies: you have to pay to be in them. They're not a seal of approval. They're just a marketing racket.

    Porsche has its own crash-test facility in Weissach. I can assure you that internal specifications go a long way beyond US and EU regulations.

    Every large car manufacturer has their own crash-test facility. All the major crash test standards including IIHS and NCAP are well-documented. So you'd think that every car would pass those tests with flying colors.... But they don't. There are a surprising number of re-tests to get around surprising outcomes, like leaking gas tanks and snapped seat belts. It's one thing to pass own highly-controlled test facility and quite another to pass someone else's test facility. Until Porsche submits their cars to independent crash tests, their supposed "high internal standards" are little more than engineering fantasy.

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    Porsche "internal standards" probably are quite superior.

    Porsche was the first European manufacturer to provide
    dual front air bags and ABS brakes as standard on their cars. They were also the first to provide 4 wheel disc brakes.

    Look at the materials and engineering of the body and the way various mechanical elements are designed and fitted to mitigate kinetic energy to the passengers. Look at the quality of the seats internal frames, fasteners, the mix of steels used to reinforce key body areas, subframes etc. Its all first rate work that you wont find in a Ford or a Kia.

    Porsche's internal safety standards are so well respected in the industry that they are the only manufacturer that the US Government allows to make safety related major design revisions without additional physical testing.

    Re: Panamera vs Quattroporte

    Racerx is right. The Panamera will be the direct competitor of the CLS. It will not be a usuall Sedan, it will be a 4 doors coupe. So it means, only 2 seats in the back, and rear passanger most proberbly shouldnt be taller then 180-185cm. So it means it will be a compromise between coupe and sedan. With all the pros and cons. Like the CLS. Also in the price range it should be close to the CLS, for sure a bit more expensive. Of course, with comperable engines.
    I think the Panamera will be a huge success IF:
    1. Design is special.
    2. Performance, I am not so much worried about the engines, I am more worried about the weight, and the transmition! I hope they can hold up with the 7G Tronic from Merc, maybe with DSG?.
    3. And should offer all the goodies from the Luxus Segment. Distronic Plus and ABC Supspension as known from Mercedes, real Turning lights, where the Bi-Xenons change the angle according to the Curve, and so much more that is already available it this segment.
    The best for sure would be one or even two Inovations.

    The PCM should offer DVD and TV!!!! An HD where you can save up movie and mp3 files, and what I am still missing in todays cars is Internet! With all the new Data Standards such as UMTS or HSPDA it should be no problem to intigrate a fast Internet connection, which is build up through the phone modul. With a fast internet and a GPS modul wich is anyways availible with the the PCM there are so many nice doors open. Google Maps for example.
