    What the front pads looks like on my 918. 16000km with almost 1000km track miles. Worn down to the wire hookup and the backing plate is separated and the material disintegrating. 

    Now it has brand new pads for the front and 4 new Cup2s. smiley

    Track time was during summer, then I drove another almost 6000km after.

    hmmm, mine looked the same the last time I went to Hockenheim ! However and unfortunately, my front discs suffered a beating as well (metal on metal) and had to be replaced as well...so, no discs replaced ?

    The metal on metal thing can get pretty expensive with ceramic discs... 

    One YouTuber went to a drag race (not even track racing!) with his Huracan, his dealer told him that he still has brake pad tread left for a thousand miles or so, so that YouTuber thought he is OK. He drag raced his car a couple of times until smoke started to come out from the brakes. The metal from the brake pads had destroyed two (I think) ceramic discs, replacement cost incl. work was around 9000 USD...as far as I remember. Nice. Smiley

    I am on my second set of front rotors, remember a while ago the rotors hats got warped from heat? Porsche replaced that for free.

    But these carbon discs are extremely durable, basically zero wear. 

    And RC, you forgot a big chunk of braking on the 918 is done with regeneration, up to 0.5g? The physical brakes only do about 0.9g peak braking. To the brakes, the car only weight about 2600lb, not 4000lb. But they are sized for a 4000lbs car anyway. 

    It's one reason why the 918 brake so well.

    Yes, the change over point is noticeable to someone very perceptive, but it doesn't affect the braking performance one bit.

    On my track, the heaviest braking is from 260-270km/hr down to 115-125km/hr, and a few that needs about 100km/hr and change scrubbed off.

    That's interesting since most guys tracking their cars in the German Porsche club sport series do (a) not specc their cars with PCCBs or (b) if these come standard (as with the Turbo S) they replace it with ordinary steel discs. Most worrying is not the ordinary wear and tear but the damage from debris / little stones picked up on the track getting between the rotor and the pads...

    By the way, I spent a day in Hockenheim yesterday, had a lot of fun, brilliant weather, saw a lot of GT3 RSs (it seems that the ratio of GT3s to GT3 RS is 1:4), of all the guys participating there were only 2 with PCCBs...

    I was driving regular speed in straight, but much slower than usual with turns.  The cars behind me must be thinking I don't know how to drive fast.Smiley

    Sorry about the spring snow in Toronto....

    we actually have not had much snow this year.  No accumulation that I can remember.  I already changed back to summer tires 2 weeks ago.

    Every year I like winter less and less. Seriously thinking of moving given the right opportunity.

    Yeah no, when I spec-ed my old .1 GT3RS, per common beliefs, I chose steel brakes cause I planned on tracking it heavily and steel is cheaper to replace, plus there are much more aggressive pads for steel brakes.

    I was told these carbon discs are so hard, stones that are trapped will be grinned to dust and no damage to the rotor. The only danger is that the clearance between the rotor and the wheels are so tight, the peddles caught will score the wheel barrels and compromise the integrity of the wheel itself. 

    I think the rotors were replaced around 6000km if my memory is correct, so the current set has been used for 10,000km with about 800km track miles, and they have no measurable wear on them.

    Shit, then I most haven gotten a diamond in my wheel, because I have a big, notable stripe all around my disc.....angel Ceramic. I drive all my cars with ceramics and I track a lot. I’ve seen to many guys standing around chatting after their laps and “CHOINK”, the disc burst.... Bad cooling down is not an issue with ceramics, but could be a big problem with steel.....

    I'm with you. Every year I ask myself how many more of these ridiculous winters I want to deal with, and the answer is 'not many'.
