Too much holes in breaking discs?

    Hi all,

it seems like Porsche has mounted too much holes in their new breaking discs. (At least for the 350 mm steal discs.)

I was cleaning the discs from breaking dust when I realized that some holes where closed! (And it was not dust that was hardened.)

I assume that those holes are too near at the edge which increases the probability of cracks?

Re: Too much holes in breaking discs?

Unless there's a risk of lawsuit, or it's a glaring error, Porsche will never admit they made a mistake ("specifications are subject to change without notice"). Cover your a** and ask the dealer about it; they will say your rotors are fine.

If the things crack, just get them replaced assuming normal driving. Porsche MAY even investigate you personally to see if you've been on a track with the car.

Check more finely to see if the holes in question are drilled however slightly differently than the rest. If they are different, maybe they have been drilled to individually balance the rotors?

    That's my us$.02

Re: Too much holes in breaking discs?

Is there a pattern to the holes?? This would be the FIRST indication..........

Now THAT would be cool... I'd be shocked if it's true, but that would be an impressive feature.

Re: Too much holes in breaking discs?

Same on mine...and after 8k kms of road and track use I can tell you that it's absolutely well done from Porsche!!

No more dangerous cracks at the end of the discs!!

Re: Too much holes in breaking discs?

No clear pattern, no individual drilled holes. It seems they closed one hole individual if one evolvent has six of them. I will check this out.

Strange. Porsche has a patent on that evolvent-technique - can't believe that this was the initial purpose of Porsche - to close holes individually on each of their breaking discs?

But if it works - fine for me.

    WOW max, 8000km already

Re: Too much holes in breaking discs?

My former GT3 had 60k kms and was 2 years old when it was sold!

But now I live in UK and the car is still in Italy...so, unfortunately, less kms in the future!
