has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

I am trying to decide if the s is a huge improvement over the base? and if the s is worth the extra price?

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS! If you by the 2.7 you will always want the S!! My rationale anyway!!

Well, purely on paper, the 2.7 is more than adequate. BUT a Porsche is all about performance and there is no substitute for power / cubic inches. Read RC's short review. If you want to do the Boxster's superb chassis justice you have to have the "S". I did. And I am not sorry. It was NOT money wasted IMO.

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

I drove both. I ordered an S. I felt it was well worth the extra $10k.

Geez, how about some support for people who (cant afford the S) and had to get the 2.7L!!!!

Me having test drive of the 2.7L next week, hopefully I wont regret it since I cant afford the S at this stage.

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

    Hi
I'm from the Midlands in the UK and i felt honoured to be able to join the Porsche club..period! I test drove the 2.7 and felt that alone was a fantastic car but i wanted alot of options which took me into 3.2S territory. Then out of curiosity i test drove the S and WOW what a difference!! i ended up ordering the S with options (just could not resist it). I would say though, even if i ordered the base 2.7..i would still be 100% satisfied. Summary: the 2.7 is awesome!; and the S is even better.

over a 4 year ownership period

it costs you less than $10/day to drive an S over a base. Give up one Starbucks a day and you're there.

If you've got a 2.7 the chances are your licence will last longer.

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

And you'll still get your coffee buzz

Went for a new 987 2.7 myself and although I would have loved the extra performance of the S it was beyond my budget...

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

Compulsory extra for the "S" - Road Angel, or Origin B2. Probably the latter as it's nice and neat and will hopefully fit in front of the gearlever. Don't want anything stuck on the leather dashtop. Going to get one next week before I lose my licence. Never ever again a Snooper after the bag of trouble I have suffered with the S6 in my daily drive, though. And I am only running the car in yet!

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

Checking specs. Boxster weighs 110 lbs less than S
    Balance Boxster 47/53 S 45/55
    Track Boxster 58.7 front 58.5 rear S 58.5 front 58.5 Rear
order Boxster S wheels & get greatly increased track !!
Boxster to be much better balanced than S, if handling is your wish rather than extra power

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

    Interesting figures - where from?

Not sure how much difference that'd make - I suspect the extra power/flexibility of the 3.2 over the 2.7 would mask any handling advantage. And you could always put your passenger in the front luggage compartment to balance things up a little

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

    If you're a cruiser take the 2,7.

If you want to have a powerfull engine take the "S".

I drove both more than a day.

Logically the 2.7 is the one to go for, especially in speed limited, Gatso infested, overcrowded Britain. It is hardly relevant to buy a 167 mph sports car in such circumstances. The 2.7 also burns less fuel, costs PoundsPoundsPoundsPounds less to buy and insure and depreciates less. BUT you don't buy sports cars out of common sense or logic. Emotion gets involved. I bought an S and the more I drive it, the more I am glad I did.

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

I have ordered a Guards Red Boxster,Savannah Beige, Cocoa Top, Prefered Pac. Bi-Zenons and 18 BoxsterWheels,
    hopefully will arrive May

Did you spec PASM, dreamcar? (I forget!) If so, how do you feel about that, with a few miles under the belt?

Re: has anyone driven the base and the S? opinions on difference

Yes and it's brilliant. In fairness I've not driven a Boxster on 19" wheels without it to compare. But I like the ride quality in "normal" and the total lack of any body roll in corners or front end dive under hard braking. You would only put up with the hard ride in "Sport" if you thought a Z4 was comfortable. But even in sport it's not as harsh as a Z4.
