    Will the new Boxster be able to compete with AMG's SLK?

    I wonder. The AMG hits 100 in 4.9 secs. That's as fast as the C4S.
    The Boxster might be sportier in some way, but who knows how sporty the AMG will be?!
    And if Porsche gives one of the three Boxster models 350 PS, wouldnt it be worth a thought to buy a 997 model instead? Because I dont think that the prices of those 2 will differ much.

    Erm, actually, the C4S takes 5.2 secs to 100 kmh.
    C4S is still the better car though, but the AMG SLK is as fast as Carrera with powerkit. Impressive for a woman's car

    Yes, unless they change the handling dynamics, I don't see how the SLK can compete in that department. Anyone can throw a high HP engine in a chassis and beat you 0-60. We're getting back to the HP issue and we all know the 911 (non-Turbo) and Boxster dont usually win in the stoplight grand prix. Although I wish they did.

    Didn't mean to offend sorry. But ownin an SL in the family, I can tell you that's it's a very uninvolving car to drive, but the SLK may be different, don't know.

    I think this is why we may well see an "S" version with 380 hp.
    I don't think Porsche would be very happy to see an SLK with more hp than its 911, although it's happened before (SLK32 has 354 hp) but handles like a crab.

    No, I've driven the SL55, not the SLK32, and the SL55 had the ESP coming on every time I pressed the accelerator hard, even in 2nd, ok, the road was damped, but that's pretty poor traction.
    I believe the SL500 to have a very similar suspension to the standard SL55 (no pack performance) and it's ok, quite impressive with the ABC on actually, but definitly optimised for comfort.

    How did YOU think the SL55 handled compared to a 996 Bilal?

    I think the SL500 or the SL55 handels not good.The car is so boring the only thing i was satisfied with was the accellaration,that's all.

    I live near the Nürburgring with all their nice twisty roads and it was not as fun as with my 996.The car is only good for high speed drivin on the Autobahn.

    The boxster 987 will have a tough competition.
    The Alpina Roadster S sounds promising too. Here is a pic of it:

    How many times this issue was discussed? I recently read an article about Porsche Turbo which sumarizes pretty much the "competition" issue and its true for Porsche Boxter too, see below.

    Personally driving Porsche996 TT 2002, I am still thinking about buying Boxter as well - its special car that handles both on track and on normal road incredible well. AMG, Z4 etc. you name it are nice cars, you probably will impress your girlfriend and mom, but when you will never miss your car in the morning when you wake up :-)
