    Re: Cayman GT4

Hm, I think designwise, the .1 GT4 had much better looks; more coherent front bumper, looking refined yet mean. This front bumper looks like trying a bit too hard to be a GT3, and not succeeding. Same goes for the rear: "look at me, I'm a GT2RS!!!"...

Well, I'm confident the end product will be quite nice, but for now, I love the looks of the .1 GT4, and am only mildly excited about the .2.

I wonder if those exhausts are very similar to the GT2RS maybe this will also be turbo? I could be vrry wrong and i hope i am but its a theory

    Re: Cayman GT4

How come there has not been any video of that car? There are spyshots, even from the Nordschleife, but no driving scenes that could indicate the engine type...

Ah, now if only I could find the threads about the last/only manual mid-engine NA GT car :)

Good thing you sold at the top, bluelines. This is the one to have. The last mid-engine, NA Cayman GT car!

Here's the thing: I have no clue about the engine type used in the Cayman GT4 (never asked) but if they use a n/a engine, don't you think it could actually make the 718 4-cyl. engine situation even worse?! Just saying...

If I were Porsche, I would stick a detuned 991.2 Carrera S biturbo engine under the GT4 "hood" but I'm not sure the engine actually fits. So maybe a 400 hp 4-cyl. power monster?! yes

A n/a engine makes most sense (from an enthusiast's point of view) but it could really put the 4-cyl. engine choice in the 718 under even more pressure in my opinion.

Indeed. Anything else than a 4-cylinder will make little sense from a 718 point of view.

4.0 probably not, some are hoping for a detuned GT3 engine, like 3.8, but honestly, that would still make it too quick a car. Most would sell their GT3 and buy the GT4 and tune it a bit (to match the GT3 engine's performance) and be the winning star on trackdays.

Porsche will have tested more than one different engine in the GT4 / GT4 RS...

"How to get six-pot power in your Porsche 718 Cayman: save up for next GT4"

    (15 November 2017)

    Porsche 718 Cayman GT4: six-cylinder power confirmed

Andreas Preuninger, head of the Porsche GT models, has gone on record as saying that the GT4 will be naturally aspirated, pointing to a detuned version of the 4.0-litre flat-six found in the new 911 GT3.

Expect a new six-speed manual transmission, like that found in the latest GT3. Yep, Porsche continues to offer the purists' solution - and long may that continue...

The German Porsche Used Car search engine currently shows more than 30 used GT4s available with sometimes ridiculously low mileage. I think that's a shame as it makes the car looking cheap or not wanted.Smiley

    Re: Cayman GT4

A detuned n/a 4.0 GT3 engine in the GT4 would certainly make the next GT4 and very interesting car and probably one worth collecting because I doubt that we are going to see a similar engine again in a Cayman.

There are so many rumors...but I haven't read or heard anything about Preuninger making this claim (n/a engine in the next GT4). Any source(s)?

    Re: Cayman GT4

I thought the point of the GT4 was a relatively "normal" engine (the old 3.8 from the 911) but a full GT chassis setup. Otherwise its basically a mid engined GT3, price will be almost exactly the same. If they could package it maybe the 3.0 turbo 6 but the 4.0l seems insane. Detuned or not surely the car will be £25k more than the last one alone. If they do then wow what a car but the more time goes on i cannot see it myself. I think Porsche will see this as the ideal time to really promote the flat 4 turbo and turn the wick up. 400/415bhp loads more torque and it will be a beast.

Even if they sell the next GT4 with a detuned GT3 engined for almost the money the GT3 costs, it would be a huge success, incl. success as a collectible. I think Porsche knows that and I highly doubt that a GT4 with detuned GT3 engine would be the same good (monetary) offer the GT4 was.

    We'll see...

    Re: Cayman GT4

I know what you mean, hmm i wonder if they still have the older 3.8 still used in the last one and bump the power to 400ish?

    Re: Cayman GT4

I am so curious about the next GT4, still not sure if I should try to upgrade or not. I will probably stick to my GT4.

If they use the 4 liter enginge, the price will most probably massively increase, a turbo engine does not interest me, I would rather buy a 911.2 GTS then

    Re: Cayman GT4

Complete left field idea but what if they used the 3.0 from the 911 took the turbos off and tuned it up to 400bhp? Not sure if that would work, a proper baby GT morot at 3.0l
