    A recent road test of a Boxster S had pegged a 5.0 second
    0-60mph. So with less weight and more power/torque I would guess a 0-60 in around 4.6 - 4.8 for the coupe.

    With a mid-engine, it's right behind the driver. I don't think there'll be any problem hearing the motor...

    I'm going stake a claim and say that its going to have a 0-62 of 5.0 or poss 4.9... But id guess that porsche would not advertise anything under the Carrera.

    Cayman has 295bhp, I guess not having the conv roof is gonna loose around 50-70kg... This would put it about 1280 - 1300kg... Which with my reckonin gives it a power to weight ratio roughly at 220-30bhp per ton... Which boys and girls is the same leaugue as the carrera which has 234!

    Yes, should be as fast or faster than a 997 (non-S) on a tight course, but not quite as fast on the 'Ring where top speed is more important...

    Trust me, you will hear it even more with a permanent roof than driving with the top down.
    Roof up = resonates the sound.
    Roof down = sound "escapes" the driver

    100% different (better, louder) in the CGT with the tops off than with them on.

    Phil,
    In cars with fiberglass tops and little soundproofing, engine noise can be louder with the top on. Porsche includes plenty of sound proofing to make the car more civil. Top down motoring is more pleasant on a sunny day and it's better to hear the clear engine note than the resonance bouncing all around.

    I think I prefer open cars, especially ones designed to be that way from the ground up, as opening the windows in a coupe does not give the same effect.

    Sorry but I have to agree with ben, lj except I drive a 914, not a Carrera GT

    But yeah in a 914 at least... with the top off you hear the engine much, much better, especially at lower speeds. Maybe once you hit a certain speed the wind overtake most of the engine sound.
