Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

I was wondering if there is any difference between the techart version or the stock GT3 version. Since the GT3 one is only 30 dollars and the techart about $600!

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

The stock version has two openings all the way from one end to the other but the Techart version has a vertical bar in the center that divides the entire vent so that it has 4 openings. I think the GT3 version looks better.

I would also advise against installing the vent because it could cause additional downforce up front which could be dangerous if you don't compensate by adding additional downforce in the rear. I bought the GT3 version for $35 but never installed it because of that.

Right on! If you are serious about aero keep it stock.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

good to know, I was considering myself...thanks.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

I actually think some more front end downforce would be a good thing. The rear wing produces downforce at speed while the stock front end produces some lift. Balancing this could improve high speed stability although I doubt the vent would add more than a few pounds of downforce.

One would have to use both the GT2 front and rear, plus the exhaust, to do any good with OEM parts.

I doubt alil air gille will do anything especially when I never really go that fast. hehe.

    I agree with that.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

after some good reads I agree.

Do you really want to mess up that pretty bumper of yours, buddy? If you really want a "hole" up front then get the GT2 bumper.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

I get what your saying atomic but I don't think its messing it up, just a nice lil cosmetic touch. I doubt I will flip cuz of the aerodynamics of the lil vent.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

Oh so you're the expert on aerodynamics after having spent $0 on wind tunnel studies when Porsche has spent hundreds of thousands (or more) on aerodynamics. That's cool. But it's your car, just make sure they don't mess it up. I've seen a couple that was placed incorrectly.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

I never said I was the expert, I'm just the guy who wants his car too look a lil more aggressive. Thanks for the heads up They did this guys techart one so they have experience, I trust em. Will post pics shortly.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

Sport Auto measured the following, without grille
    997TT front 8Kg lift
    997TT rear 12Kg downforce

    With grille
    Ruf RT12 front 11Kg lift
    Ruf RT12 rear 34Kg downforce

Conclusion, grille does not add downforce to front.

    One mans opinion.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

The front spoiler on the RT12 is significantly different than that of the 997tt so these numbers can't really be compared imho.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

The article states that the high downforce in the rear causes some lift in the front.

As being said, two different cars and especially misleading due to the Rt12's higher downforce at the rear (and leverage influencing front lift).

The grill opening should add a couple more Nm (or kg) up front, would be hesitant to do it as well.

Re: Install GT3 front air grille on turbo

I have driven both and own the TT and can tell you the body is 95% similar.

Why would you not want more downforce in the front without unbalancing the rear. Keeping both ends planted is the best thing one can do.

BTW the GT3 has O lift front and rear at 200kph
