So I orderd a few hours before my 997 4S with X51.
I was i doubt between M6 and 997 4S with X51. At the end I decided right for the 997.
Here are few facts about the X51 powerkit (official information):
torque + 15 Nm, but a much better curve (at 5500 rpm the difference is even 30 Nm)
hp + 26
max rpm + 100 or 200
Performance values:
997 S: + 7 km/h, -0,2 sec (0-100 km/h), -0,6 sec (0-200 km/h)
997 S tip: + 11 km/h, -0,2 sec (0-100 km/h), -0,4 sec (0-200 km/h)
997 4S: + 8 km/h, -0,2 sec (0-100 km/h), -0,8 sec (0-200 km/h)
997 4S tip: + 10 km/h, -0,2 sec (0-100 km/h), -0,4 sec (0-200 km/h)
New tail pipes (one with larger radius then the other one), inkluding PSE, some parts of engine cover are made of carbon with Porsche and X51 logo, a new engine cap (the colored part you see with the spoiler, with more possibility to get air to the engine), additional water cooler (like the tiptronic has).
X51 results in big modification of the engine. I can't translate all to englisch.
- damper flap or throttle valve
- resonance flap
- cylinder head
- exaust system (extractor)
- ....
I hope this information helps. For me the 12.000 Euro extra a worth. I get PSE, tailpipes, powerkit and all with warrenty. If you are lucky you even get 390 hp. Two of tested car has both more then 390 hp.

I have all this information black on white from Porsche Exclusive printed on 7th june 2005.
The max torque is + 15 Nm. But if you follow the new torque values (which are allways higher then without X51) you will see for e.g. this values

If your info is true mumbasic, the powerkit 997S will seriously drop the 997S from 4000 rpm onwards, that's impressive.
The previous powerkit for 996s were always better above 5000 rpm but worse in the low rpm range compared to the standard ones,
This new one also is better in the low range, stupendous!

Let me put it this way, Francois: the 381 HP powerkit is worth going for if you're 100% sure that you won't go for a 997 GT3 or Turbo later on. You'll regret not going for the powerkit as soon as the more powerful 997 models show up.
I know the difference in performance isn't huge but this is some sort of "psychological" thing too.
If you can afford it, GO for it. You'll regret it sooner or later.

You did the right thing to go for the powerkit but I don't understand why you went for the C4S and not the CS.

The name of the porsche engineer is not so important. More important is that I can have influence which engine will be put in my car
I have nearly 6 month choosen between 997 2S, 4S, tt and M6. And I have decided to go for the 997 4S with X51 because it is still 30.000 Euro cheaper then the tt. It is more understatement then tt or M6. I have to say I have bought last friday for my wife a Touareg V10. So we have to watch a little bit on our money.
Why 4S and not 2S? I live in Schwarzwald, we have a lot of snow in winter. I would like to have the extra grip provided by the 4S. I like also the 44 mm
But I hate the extra load for the awd.Greetings

997 engine whistle please help
hello i have recently bought a 997 carrera s. the car is awesome. however there is one thing which annoys me alot.let me ask: at high rpms like starting from 5000 till the limit i beginn to hear kind of a whistle.(i definately dont talk about the great power sound coming from the engine after 5500) like turbo turbin sound. which decreases also propotional to the rpm if i take my foot off the throotle. i hear the same whistle at 900 rpm when the engine door is opened. if there is someone who has an idea about this noise or having the same experience please let me know what it is. thanks all....
