    Finally saw the 997!

    Very nice
    As many of you have written before, the perfect evolution of the 996.
    Weirdly, what impressed me most was the interior, really excellent quality
    Feels very compact, the whole center console with the PCM might be cayenne-ish, I don't care, it is great quality.
    However, because I have a cab I always thought that the Coupe was a proper 2+2, but I sat at the back and it is really not that good actually.
    Nothing new here, but it's the headroom that ruins the long journey potential for rear passengers, useful though in town. But top down, rear passengers are actually more at ease. Experienced it again today with three mates to go to for a meal, always handy.
    The round lights are nice (although not as aggresive as the previous ones but "more Porsche" I guess), the hips are very nice, overall, very nice evolution, I like it a lot.
    BTW, OT, but drove my 996 again today for the first time in a very long time, boy it's so great, even in Paris at town speeds.
    Sunshine, no traffic (because it's August, Parisians on holiday) and top down, Great!
    Went to the Ferrari garage before hand to pick up my friends, sat for a long time in a Quattroporte and a 612.
    The 612 is so much better in real than the pics, it is incredible how a car can be so ugly on pics and so nice in real, the interior is actually really good quality I must admit, I loved the big air vents, and I played with the big color "Gameboy" screen for a little while, not bad at all, all the gizmos are cool, even the glovebox opens electrically with a button on the center console. Enzos, Stradales, etc... as beautiful as ever.
    But back to the 997, it's a great car and I think it will be a success.
    After such a nice day of driving in Paris, I now eagerly wait for the cab version.

    Francois, DRIVE IT. Seeing it isn't enough. Get a nice 997 Carrera S from your dealer, maybe even with 20 mm suspension/LSD and Chrono Sport option.
    Drive it and report to us. I bet you won't stop smiling.

    I don't know if it has been discussed before in here or not? but will 20mm suspension/LSD find its way to the U.S. or if not as factory option for the U.S. customers, can it be retrofited after delivery?

    True. I didn't really like it on pictures but yesterday I saw it in Monaco and I was really impressed from the design.

    About the design of the 997 I still have my doubts but I am without patience to drive it and see this evolution. Unfortunatly I have to wait until September to get one for a day.

    My dealer left on holiday on Friday, bad luck.
    So I could only see it, but it's planned in a couple of weeks, hopefully with another few AMAZING SURPRISES for our members, needs to be confirmed first. It would be I think a historical first.

    To be honest, I don't know. I don't see why a height adapted version of this suspension incl. LSD shouldn't be available in the US but I'm really clueless, sorry.

    It is not available in the US due to DOT ride height issues.

    And the part that puzzles me regarding the DOT ride height..is how on earth the GT, GT2 and GT3 meet the specifications?

    Could it have to do with the fact that GT3 & GT2 were imported in much much less numbers (prob less than 1000 total) and can get away with it?

    Sounds reasonable, but then they should allocate 1,000 997S's with -20mm also

    The inconsistency in decision making within our various government agencies is simply mind numbning...
