Your points are being felt by many Porsche buyer's. For an example, regarding design being evolutionary, why would someone spend over $100,000 for a car that looks very similar to a 10 year old model and most people cannot distinguish?

Regarding exclusivity, because Porsche has been churning out look alike models Boxster, Cayman, 997, 997S, 997 GT3, 997TT which resemble 996 models they literally dot the landscape. In S. Calf. I see more Porsche's than Corvette, honda 2000 or even Miata's.

The S is a terrific performing car but how often does one have an opportunity to really enjoy what the car can do? Anticipating that some will say well what about Ferrari my reponse is simply drive one and see how even at the speed limit the Ferrari is so special in sound, sexiness and sensual feel that it is worth every penny. To enjoy a Porsche you must drive it at the limit.

Finally, regarding that a Porsche is good car for daily use I find that point hilarious. Why drive a sport car to work or shopping? It is impractical and useless. The only people that drive there Porsche's to work or shopping are those that cannot afford another car or they want to be seen in a Porsche. I drive a MiniCooper everyday and love it.

Nick: Really, don't you have anything better to do with your time than to bash Porsches? You spend all your time here and at Rennlist trying to rationalize all of the faults you personally find with Porsches and Porsche drivers. It's really getting old and it's really low class. Shouldn't you be billing someone for something instead? You don't hear me bashing that crappy Univerisity of Connecticut Law School that you went to (whoops, I guess I did!). Wouldn't you find it a better use of your time posting on a Ferrari website talking about how much you like your F Car? Get a life.

It's called insecurity, the same feeling that drove him to buy (and flaunt) the Ferrari in the first place.

Nick's attitude used to really inflame me when I first came on Rennteam. Then one of the established members advised me to ignore him, which is pretty much what I've done.

For me there's a place in my garage for both an F & P car, but unfortunately I can't afford both AND have a more practical alternative available. So I simply prefer Porsche - my choice - my decision.

I certainly wouldn't 'slag off' the F car, I love seeing them on the road and still wish I could own one - but not at the expense of my P.

As far as the Mini bit goes, I also do some shopping in my wife's Cooper S, but only when we're doing a really big shop which won't fit in the 997S, and frankly I hate it. To me it's denying me another opportunity to drive my Porsche!

I think Nick just waits for a thread he can use to provoke this kind of reaction - maybe he thrives on controversy and needs it to get his 'fix'.

Best thing to do is not throw him any bait then maybe he won't rise to the surface.

Re: Anyone regret getting the 997S?

There is a proverb in my part of the world which goes like:

'A man will redicule what he really covets.'

Maybe Nick really wants to own Porsche after all

Sounds like you're trying to justify keeping your F430 in your garage and only putting on a few miles during the weekend so that you can keep the value of your car up. I find that hilarious.

Now, I do drive my 997S to work every day. I don't care about the miles I put on my car. I care about having a fun drive in the morning before a possible stressful day at work and a fun drive in the evening to relieve the stress.

I bet that it's cheaper to buy a Minicoooper and drive it everyday than it is to drive your F430 everyday. Isn't this the reason why you have the Minicooper, to keep you F430 in the garage?

    Hi Nick,
Thanks for bringing out this point, it goes to show that Porsche has succeeded in a timeless design that has lasted more than a decade, and I'm confident that it will also retain its iconic shape a futther decade. I'm buying a car now at 100k today that would definitely cost more for a newer type model in 10 years time but the timeless design never depreciates its look ....its kinda of like owning an antique timepiece, e.g Patek Philippe, AP or Rolex watch.

On the contrary, the flashy modern designs of the current Ferrari are really nice but it also results in several of the older ones looking very outdated now ..... but there are some exceptions of course.

    I love my 997

If Nick is a really a lawyer it explains everything.
My Wife is a lawyer too and a partner in one of the largest international firms, and she use to work in San Diego and one of the resons we moved to LA was because the lack of class and small town mentallity in the legal community there is so prevalent, besides that San Diego still has that " being the little brother of LA " attitude.
So no suprise that Nick has this show off attitude but it really masks an inferiority and ego problem.

Re: Anyone regret getting the 997S?

A 997S owner has buyers remorse and post concerns. I happen to agree with those concerns and get flamed for it.

When we speak of class I guess it excludes Porsche owners.

BTW in light of the Dan Neil article I just posted ,I should also point out that not only is the 911 outdated in styling but outdated in engineering.

I am a big fan of the Cayman and wish Porsche would not wrap its feet in tight wraps to prevent its growth as was once done in ancient chinese practice to women.

Pabs1---Any chance your post was a bit narrowminded? That's like saying that all guys named Pablo are Mexican and do landscaping. Just want to note that to assume that one being a lawyer "explains everything" seems to explain nothing and may not be appreciated by all.

From what I figure this guy has a real problem and yes some Lawyers do have a tremendous infiriority problem , hence the attitude.
Like I wrote before my Wife is a Partner at a very large law firm and both our opinion about some lawyers is the same, and if you are a lawyer you should know that unless you are an ambulace chaser and then you won't see it at all.

Classic troll speak! Troll pulls back, tries to re-affirm his "good intentions" by complimenting the Cayman. Trolls also quote other biased sources to try to legitimize his "valid criticisms" (the don't shoot the messenger strategy).

Well, every messageboard has a "Nick." Here on rennteam.com, Nick is that "Nick."

Re: Anyone regret getting the 997S?

What do you expect from someone who thinks the basic F430 styling isn't flashy enough but then has to get an eye-searing yellow paint job and interior that screams "HEY, LOOK AT ME! I paid a lot of $$ for this car and I don't get enough attention in my normal life." No, a Porsche 911 is not for this type of person.

Why drive a sports car to work or shopping? Are you serious? Why not drive it every minute you can? My 911 is a daily driver--snow tires on it now--and it is truly a pleasure, weather stuck in traffic with its sweet, short shifting gearbox, or driving it at 8/10 on the track (my limit, not the car's...), or going to Dominick's for groceries. Why park it in the garage and pleasure yourself at the thought of it when you can pleasure yourself by driving it?

It actually sounds like you can't afford to drive your Ferrari every day! Scared of the hit if you get it over 1,000 miles, aren't you?

I think Nick bought a Ferrari so he could use it to bust our (Porsche owners, 911 in particular) balls.

Yes I am. This was covered in a previous thread regarding Nick.

If you read the last statement in my last post, it's actually quite revealing. Just have to be abstract to grasp it..

I am not a shrink, but I have also often thought that Nick's constant Porsche-bashing could only mean one thing: Nick is a closet Porsche-lover!

1 , Nick throws out bait , and you lot bite on it , hence it gives him ATTENTION..

2 , Nick drives an f430 ( and bloody good luck to him ) and surprise surprise , its the loudest colour ,, YELLOW which attracts ATTENTION ..

So all in all you get my drift lads , Nick loves all this banter which in affect gives him a sense of security and insurance ,, a bit like a child with ADHD..

Re: Anyone regret getting the 997S?

There will always be faster/better/newer car than the one you have. Just drive and enjoy it! The 997 has an excellent blend of pace, performance and practicality.

However, should you desire exclusivity, there are plenty less ubiquitous marques to chose from. How's about a classic car?

Re: Anyone regret getting the 997S?

The most stellar thing about a Porsche is that you CAN drive it every day. I really would not even try to attempt that with many other 'exotic' makes as they just aren't built to run daily.

Don't 'real' Ferraris have 12 cylinders?

dude ur just sour since you have a great car but in 'loser blue' kinda like riding a green ducati

Re: Anyone regret getting the 997S?

I think it's a little buyer's remorse in some folks who got highly optioned S cars(>100k) only to have the TT/GT3 be announced for a few 'pennies' more, so to speak. If I had gotten the 997 C4S, x51, aero, etc it was at 119k msrp, I would have felt bad when the TT came out at 122k, glad my deal fell thru.
I'm gonna keep mine for awhile, I'm on the list for a TT, but after seeing that video on the p site, I might wait for the GT3 in a couple of years.

Isn't the overall difference in a 996C4S and a 997C4S X51 etc. greater than the 997C4S X51 and the 997GT3? Two years just seems like a long time to wait for something newer/better when you could have been driving the 997.

I thought about waiting for the 997 GT3 Cabriolet with X52.
