Re: Turbo 997.2 sport auto performance

can, I agree with you entirely that all what we can currently see is the max. power information Porsche submitted for the Turbo S and yes that's only a single point.
Unfortunately I haven't see any graph of tourque or hp as a comparison between Turbo and Turbo S.

For me and my long lasting experience (over 30 years) with P-cars, a power increase of 30 hp means not so much. But yes, no facts - only feeling....Smiley

ANY ONE knows  if the 991 or 998 whatever,    will come in the end of THIS YEAR ,2010,       to be MODEL 2011???

or no.... it will be presented in the END of 2011 to be   MODEL 2012?????

Re: Turbo 997.2 sport auto performance

I'd say we either see the new 991 next year in Frankfurt or - if Porsche wants to speed things up - at a major car show like Geneva in spring.

Re: Turbo 997.2 sport auto performance

Given the current financial situation at Porsche, I have a niggling suspicion that there is a reasonable amount of pressure to "speed things up".

Sure, I have had similar experience to yours. My Cargraphic exhaust system is advertised to gain 25 hp over stock. When I first had it, I thought either my butt dyno needs re-calibration, or 25 hp doesn't mean anything, or someone claims 25 when he should not have.

OTOH, a stage 2 ECU tune gains around 10%, or 40-50 hp (my car's gain is consistent with this). This 40 however is an entirely different animal -- there is near elimination of lag and the spool up time vastly reduced. The car forward thrust becomes nearly out of control in certain situation, like curves. Smiley But... my experience is more than just feeling, the clutch starts slipping, indicating a very "bad boy" is lurking beneath this 40 hp.

So there is 30 hp, and there is 30 hp; depends on the situation and who is claiming what. Specifically when it comes to ECU-tune or Turbo boost manipulation, I think 30 tends to be very real. Hopefully the TT S will be another home-run for Porsche.

BTW, 991's chassis change and engine being moved forwards, if true, are very exciting news to me. If I already have 997.1 Turbo, there is no way I would upgrade to 997.2.
    991 would be the one!

Good question. Panamera Turbo can do 303 kph in 6th gear and "only" 275 kph in 7th. I think the TT's top in 7th is around 285 kph.

Y're right and so I stay very curious how the Turbo S will doing and what kind of acceleration we will see between 100 kp/h and 200 kp/h as that is the most usable range for me.Smiley

Having recently driven the PDK Turbo, I cannot even begin to understand what the PDK Turbo S will do. Smiley For a factory non-modded car, It WILL be out to kill and will be king of the road  -- there is no question about that in my mind. I felt queasy (no kidding) during one of my PDK Turbo acceleration runs; this is extremely unusual for me because usually I think it's passenger who feels queasy, not the driver. Think I wll take anti-nausea medication if ever a test drive in the S monster comes up. LOL.

That's the problem with Turbo power, one gets addicted to the nuclear power thrust and a switch to Porsche NA flat 6 brings disappointment. When I switch back and forth between the GT3 and the Turbo, the NA car feels like someone has pulled 2 of the 6 plugs. Once you taste the power, nothing will ever feel the same. In my case, it's a "life sentence." Smiley

Re: Turbo 997.2 sport auto performance

I dont believe there will be a big difference between Turbo and Turbo S - just noticeable one

IMHO, I dont believe Porsche will issue the car with so low lomit of power

I really hope that 997.2 TT PDK will hold 600 hp -

Having university degree for mechanical engineering it seems to me as a complete non-sense that a conrod would broke after just 10% power/torque hike. Especially in case of make like Porsche. It may have happened in case of one bad unit though, of course. But it is definitely not normal.

So your university degree in mechanical engineering enables you to know what is "normal" for a ground up brand new Porsche turbo engine ? Did you also know what was "normal" when the Mezger N/A 993 engine was superceded by the all new 996 N/A engine Smiley

Wonder why they are not putting the new 997tt.2 engine in the GT2RS ?

A 10% torque increase translates directly to a 10% greater maximum load on the conrod, and mv is surely quite right to say that Porsche would not not routinely spec its conrods with a safety factor of only 10%.

Increasing the torque by just 10% could however lead to the working life of some components being reduced by considerably more than 10%, but tuners do not dyno test for durability. They are just looking for performance, so the alleged breakage would have happened early in the engine'slife.

Any conrod which broke under the conditions described did not do so purely due the 10% torque increase.

Looking at Cargraphic website with the new 997tt.2 powerkit, there is no mention of RS Tuning and there is a picture of a turbo on a chassis dyno - RS Tuning would never use a chassis dyno !

I had to speak with RS today about another matter to do with my car......

I can categorically confirm that the Cargraphic powerkits for the 997tt.2 are NOT from RS Tuning.

RS Tuning (as I have previously stated ) will not be offering upgrades for the 997tt.2 at this time since their testing has revealed the limits at 550PS of THEIR LOADINGS - these will doubtlessly not be the same loadings as a 4th gear chassis dyno run which is measuring your 575PS in the Cargraphic kits.

RS Tuning are working on tuning but in will involve new pistons, conrods, head gaskets........

so the new turbo will have a lower MAX SPEED than my current 997TT MANUAL, because if it put 311km/h  in the MAX rev of 6th GEAR, my   turbo i did in speedo 325km/h it will mean easily MORE than REAL 311km/h.

so maybe with the new turbo i can be faster in acceleration but no doubt slower in MAX SPEED??? SmileySmiley
