Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

Hi guys, had a fantastic day at Nordschleife yesterday

    Short version
I hate Cram, because he made me addicted to the GT3 yesterday (Geeeeeeez what a car - I need one right now)
I love my wife because after discussing the idea of a GT3 with her she simply said: why wait - get it now. Life's too short....

    Long version
Of course I don't really hate Cram I met Cram and his brother Gnil at the Ring yesterday (they attend the Scuderia Hanseat up to Saturday and they'll post a report later for sure). Super nice guys and no P-car posers for sure - they use their cars for what they are made for

Due to the Scuderia course the Ring was a blast yesterday - no kids with pimped up Golf GTI's (like Sundays) - just a sea of the real toys It looked like an annual production of GT3/RS was lapping the Ring Just like a candystore for big boys: P-cars everywhere (from '73 RS up to CGT), the Gumpert Apollo again, Gallardo Spider, Swedish F 430 with the brilliant numberplate ITALIA
    etc.....

A friend said: watch out - not all the cars will make it to the official start of the Scuderia course tomorrow... unfortunately he should be right

I did 10 laps with my 987S and it was big fun to swim with the big boys

We made a nice convoy (experienced Ring-buddy with his 987S, Gnil with his 997 4S, Cram with his GT3 and me with my 987S) and had fun like hell

We were following a beautiful '73 RS in the famous Gulf-colours and we needed up to Breidscheid to finally overtake him

Then it became a bit bizarre: two 997 GT3 RS in front of us - not really slow, but also not thaaaat fast (I mean the drivers, not the cars )
While their ego still allowed to let Gnil and Cram overtake them, they were pis.ed off to watch my tiny Boxster in their mirrors. Of course I stood no chance on the straights, but I was sniffing at their exhaust in each corner - the guys kept driving "fighting line", no chance for me to overtake them

Other incredible scene: I just commenced a fast lap following a buddy in his M3. My buddy started to overtake a Mitsubishi EVO (near Antoniusbuche) and I was just about to follow, when I saw a white 997 TT appearing in my mirror at crazy speed. Hence I stayed at the right side and watched in horror as the TT-pilot (instead of braking to not hit my friend) pushed even further Obviously he thought there would be enough room for three cars When he realised that it just wasn't so he tried to escape onto the green and you can imagine what happened - never watched such a hefty crash (car went sideways on the green without hitting the armco, then crossed the track onto the green at the other side, hit the armco, went back onto the track - entire "trace" about 300 m or so ). Brandnew 997 TT totalled, but driver and passenger o.k. The guys were real Gentlemen though ("no question, it was our mistake") and they seemed to be quite relaxed after the crash ("It's only metal...."). They looked like they instantly could order a new TT The Marshals couldn't believe what they saw ("How can one crash at this straight ? We never saw it before....")

In the afternoon I saw a totalled black/orange 997 GT3 RS in the meadows....

Returning to the nicer impressions: the taxilap with Cram in his GT3 made me addicted instantly - what a car
It just feels so rock solid like a castle - incredible

We were following Gnil's 997 4S for one lap and it was amazing to simply watch the difference - the track was completely ours for one lap (no other cars ), so that Gnil could focus on driving a clean line (which he did superbly ). At the limit the 997 4S (which already is a perfectly planted car on the track of course) became just a tiny bit nervous while the GT3 stayed completely glued to the track

God may help me - I'm lost. Can't get the GT3 out of my head

Stay tuned....I'll add some pics tonight.

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

Sounds like there is only one (expensive) cure for your problem...

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

Thanks for the update. I'm missing the Ring already and your post made it worse. I also "need" a GT3, but they are not that easy to come by unless your prepared to compromise, get a 2nd hand one, with not quite the spec you wanted and a premium price to boot. Still tempting tho'

    Looking forward to the pics.

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

    Porsche-Jeck,

I completely understand how you feel

and I also know there is a medecine for this

    go get him

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

This kind of posts should be forbidden!!!
Feel totally helpless behind my screen...
One should never make fellowrennteamers that envious !

Just kidding, glad you enjoyed it that much. I'm always looking forward to my next journey to a track!
    thx for sharing

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

Wow PJ, sounds like a boys adventure!
Also very glad to hear that obviously, Cram's GT3 was repaired before their weekend nordschleife. Hope they will be ok.

Sounds great. After all I'll bring some flowers at my next visit.

Great to hear your story & that you made it back just fine.

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

Meanwhile I'm convinced, that the Porsche factory puts some weird stuff into the aircon of their cars. Once you inhale the stuff you're lost forever

In all honesty - sometimes I ask myself whether I should see a psychiatrist. This P-addiction can't be normal...

Haha, I was just kidding The politically correct description would be: me, following the TT

Anyway, thanks for the nice report, and say hi to the Gnil & Cram bros for me!

You're absolutely right But when I say kids with "pimped-up GTIs" I mean those who think they could turn their old cars into proper racecars by painting some Rallye stripes and by putting some fat tires on their cars.

But there are also a lot of very well prepared/modified (not pimped-up) compact cars with experienced pilots driving circles around the expensive sportscars (not to talk about my not so expensive Boxey )

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

I tell you what PJ. This guy below certainly knew the track at the weekend and there wasn't much, if anything overtaking him. Bloody nutter!

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

@ ResB: not all Dutch guys drive Caravans only

As promised I post some pics from yesterday (still using the wifey's RT-account from our home PC )

I also took some pics with Gnil's camera during a lap. Most probably the pics will be useless though - too much dynamic

    Nice Seal butts

I hope there's no cure! Less than a month after my last addition and I'm already thinking of my next: GT3 or RS.

Groovy, PJ- thanks for the pics and report! I can't wait to hear of your spec and due date.

Re: Why I hate Cram and why I love my wife

Hi Porsche-Jeck, what a thrilling post to read! Your addiction/enthusiasm really is clear! There's only one cure I fear...getting a GT3 of your own. Thank goodness Mrs Porsche-Jeck is so understanding. Now you better start looking around for a dealer that can give you your medicine!

I'm so glad you guys had such a great, great time together at the 'Ring. You've had so many laps there now and you seem to know the names of every corner by heart! Good for you! I wonder when my turn in the 'Green Hell' will come! Maybe next Spring when I renew my car insurance policy with insurance from a company that will cover a few trips to the 'Ring each year...

    All the best,
    Easy

Easy, you'll be lucky....but just in case you do find one, lemme know won't ya?

I wish I would At least the ratio of overtaking vs. becoming overtaken is improving each time I get there My gutt feeling says another two weekends and the imaginary big red "L" maybe replaced by a a much smaller "L" (though still an L).

Can't wait to meet you and your baby at the Green Hell. I'm sure your -20mm/LSD set-up will feel superbly on the track.

Re insurance: I see swarms of UK cars on the Ring at weekends. Can't imagine that they all are without full insurance coverage

@ Joost: sorry I've no more shots of the white RS.

@ Richard: you're completely nuts We will all end up in the same madhouse But actually a buddy explained to me last week why one basically needs four P-cars at least (and he was really serious about it)
