    Need Track Advice

This year i'll be racing for the Porsche Cup Swiss. Alot of Rumours are around that people owning a 997 GT3 will put rims of 18 instead of 19.

They say that with 19 the Michelin cup get consumed to quickly, and we have to race under Michelin cups.

As far my experience goes, i can understand that but not sure if for 6 races, it's worthit to get 4 Rims of 18.

    Thanks for the replys.

    Re: Need Track Advice

Well, you can always sell them when you've finished with them.

    Re: Need Track Advice

I'll buy your 19' rims if you make me a good price

lol, your poor brother might already have suffered enough Gnil-related losses

    j/k

Are you sure you can fit 18's around 997 GT3 brakes? I know it's a no-go with PCCB's, but I'm not sure it'll fit around the steel brakes...

    Re: Need Track Advice

I don't have much to add because I don't know anything about the feasibility of the switch, but I have to say that for racing, I just plain like the idea of 18's on a GT3 more than 19's.

19's are more for show than performance. 18's make more sense. It's subtle, but seemingly self evident to me.

    Re: Need Track Advice

GT3 steel brakes are 350mm front and rear... just like the Carrera PCCB!

In other words, yes, you can fit 18" wheels on a GT3 as long as it's got steel brakes.

    Re: Need Track Advice

well then i guess i'll go for it. Hope just that the behaviour of the car want change.

Then I' buy your 19's... cheap as they have been scratched

    Re: Need Track Advice

Its slightly cheaper to get Rspec tyires in 18" and it is also cheaper to maintain them.

Tyre availability is also a large factor in going with 18s, and they also put less stress on the suspension. There is really no use for 19" except looks and clearing PCCBs.

A floating brembo setup is better than PCCB anyway and no one in their right mind would race w/ PCCB given the replacement costs/low lifetime.

    Get BBS motorsport rims.

    Re: Need Track Advice

all supercup 997 GT3 race on 18" but then those cars are built to match the 18" racing wheels. I think there is a reason that Porsche matched the GT3 and RS! to go with the 19" wheels. I would be surprised if you felt a dramatic change worth buying the wheels for 6 events this year..
