No It was the new GT3 RS turbo "4S" cab, in a blazingly boring silver

But it is supposed to be real fast because it has a turbo and a "4S" written in the back. Oh and it has a wing too. The only faster cars are the same but red Smiley

I doubt it, unless one of the Porsche employees there will provide a hint here and there.

As far as I heard, the 991.2 Turbo/S should be available in 2016 but I doubt the introduction will happen in 2015.

    SciFrog:

My last sighting of a 991 turbo cab was a woman in her late 40s driving 25mph in a 30mph... And you could not hear the car at all...

most modern day Turbo Cabs live their lives no differently than MBZ SLs

I have noticed there are far fewer new SLs driven by their usual buyers , men or women in their 40s or 50s, today than  20-25 years ago . Lots more choices today....even within MBZ's own line up . Teslas prob ate up a lot of that demographic around where I live .

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I barely see any SL around here in Bavaria anymore. I see many BMW 6 series and of course...911. Those driving a 911 are usually younger men between 30 and 40 or women between 30 and 50, which is quite interesting. Well, at least in my region. Those in the age of 50 and over are usually driving BMW 6 series, Mercedes S Coupe or Maserati GT.

R231 SL sales are pretty poor in the UK. They are a rare sight on the roads in London, and even more so, outside London.

6 series coupes, convertibles and GCs are far more numerous. BMW doing amazing deals on them, which helps.

True. If the M6 Cab would have AWD, I would have one by now. The car suits four people pretty comfortably and with a closed top, you can even fit two smaller suitcases in the trunk. We had a rental in Ibiza, not bad at all.

I very nearly ordered (to my spec) a 650i M Sport Convertible this Spring .. 32% discount (special BMW scheme). So very tempting .. may be next year!

This little side discussion is inetersting , isnt it ?

For almost half a century , the MBZ SL had the market all to itself for a widely available daily drivable luxury convertible ...folks used to buy them serially without even a consideration of anything else more or less expensive .

Just like that, it seems, it has fallen out of favor ....which is odd for such a storied well engineered well built and generally very attractive nameplate, even with today's competition...after all, the S Class has not lost  any of ITS market share to newer and oft times " better " or " sportier " choices in the premium luxury sedan sector in the same time period

Re MBZ SL: Have you seen the styling on the latest SL's? Borderline disgusting. None of the clean lines and elegance of the past generations. No wonder people are not buying them anymore. "Generally very attractive nameplate" has not been the case recently.

The car also got 30% more expensive towards previous generations. Also - since the 911 got more and more comfortable many people, especially older ones moved towards the Porsche. I can see it on my father and his friends. 20 Years ago they all had MB, since the 996 they made a move to the Porsche. On his birthdays there are guys between 65 and 80 years old and his front yard looks like a Porsche dealership Smiley They hardly get a hard on but they still move themselves into those tight little cars from Zuffenhausen. Smiley

agree with Lars.....911 convertible now features all creature comforts the SL does so many people might opt for it instead. i also feel that Mercedes has totally ruined the look of the SL. the last generation is downright ugly.

+ 2 . It used to be an elegant car with harmonic lines. Now it looks like someone just put bits and parts together that have nothing in common with each other . I can't believe that design got the green light !!

I never see any  new SL around , maybe one in the last year. As before it was a car seen every day .

Justed picked up on rumours again regarding a potential 911 R model.

Will not be presented at the upcoming IAA Frankfurt car show in September, much more likely in H1 2016 (Geneva in March?). Power rumoured to be approx. 550 HP, less extreme than GT3/RS but still track capable, turbo-charged, price tag pretty elevated € 250k plus X.

Have guys heard about this as well?

    Damn cool, I'd say..

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

in the UK, SL prices were cut by about £10,000 2 years ago. Launch prices were too optimistic. At the moment there are huge rebates available, which means that a mid loaded SL500 (455hp bi turbo V8, 7G auto, with magic sky control, HK sounds and other bits and pieces) can be had for £69,000 .. much less than a base Carrera coupe.

It's true that the R231 SL is not a good looking car, it's clumsy and poorly proportioned. However, the more I see it, the more I like it. Also very colour sensitive. Next year's facelift might make it a bit better, but I doubt it.

The AMG GT uses a completely different platform to the R231 SL.

Looks excellent IMHO. And the upgraded engine is very, very powerfull.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Looks superb, nice looking front kiss. Tell us more about the engine . Maybe 4.0l, as the 3.8l was "near" its maximal output as some of you guys said.
