Whats interesting is that by the 3rd car length the Turbo has already caught up and pass the 458 despite the 458 launching half a beat faster.
This video really makes the 458 looks bad, especially the Porsche is regular Turbo and not the S.

I think it is a very lovely car, perfectly done by McLaren. If these performance stats prove true, then omg what a game changer. Ferrari will have to seriously up their game.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

This has been discussed before, American mags use a "roll out" measuring technique which explains there consistently faster times.
I'm intrigued - how can a 'roll out' technique measure a 0-60 or 0-120 time? "0" means stationary

They use a trigger beam to start the timer, so when cars line up the front wheels blocked the beam and standby the timer, then the timer starts when the front wheel unblock the beam. The beam is also not flush with ground level, so the car do travel a little bit of distance and gains a little speed before the actual time starts.
The common roll out distance is about a foot.

Its probably even faster than the 458 if you believe Chris Harris's piece here.
2 x 458 at every mag test, one set up for straights and one for corners...

This is an extremely interesting article. I always suspected Ferrari was very "involved" with their press cars, but this is over the top. And people were complaining about the Nissan GTR being "tuned"
I still love Ferrari's, but they have lost some major credibility in my eyes. Thank you Chris Harris! Always appreciated his reviews/opinions the most of all auto journalists.

well gentlemen for those in the know, a 0-200 time of under 9 secs is a VERY difficult thing to achieve. So either the mclaren is a lot faster than the 458 and the turbo S or simply the performance statistics are a lie. It is as simple as that.
Both 458 and turbo S are in the low to mid 10s at best. (RealZeus lets forget about that italian test as it probably belongs to a scifi movie).
So we can speculate as much as we want but we will not know the truth until the independent tests come in. (preferably from non-british journalists to also cover that angle)
So Automobilismo, Quattroruote and the American Road and Track are all lying? Yeah, right mate!
They're not lying. Ferrari is taking care of that, it seems, by providing only special TUNED cars to the press

And you really believe Chris-Porsche fanboy-Harris that easily?
Yes I do, do you have some evidence to the contrary? What is Chris' motive in bashing Ferrari? He makes his living reviewing supercars, that used to include Ferrari before this little expose. I appreciate his honesty on this subject and do not doubt his claims for one second.

I think Ferrari lack any integrity. Just look at F1 - the team orders, the cheating and lying, the arrogance of Alonso, it stinks. Give me Chris Harris or Andreas Preuninger any day.

First, I don't think he is a porsche fan-boy. He owned a Ferrari which he recently sold, and he's known for his admiration for the brand. Even if he was, it is absurd to think he has invented all that in such great detail, and risked his whole carrier by claiming such lies which could be so easily unmasked (by other car journalists, who would surely step in to defend ferrari if things were otherwise), just to conclude that ferrari's marketing team sucks balls ? Or, how he puts it, that "Its cars are so good it doesn't need this shite." It doesn't make any sense.
Oh, and btw, this is a porsche fan-boy forum in case you didn't notice

I agree, hats off to Chris Harris to have the courage to speak the truth, I do not see why we would doubt his words any second since 1) he is a well-reckoned automotive reporter with undisputable integrity and credibility 2) he is risking not being able to drive the latest and greatest Ferraris for a long time, if not for ever, which is very damaging given his job.
I totally agree with Chris, just look at the Topgear episode where Jeremy raced against Luca Badalwi or whatever his name is called. Ferrari always ensure they have their guys looping aound whenever a mag or show wants to test drive their cars. Shame on you Ferrari

You must be joking daring to scorn Ferrari when it was McLaren that used stolen Ferrari data and denying it! They should have been banned for life from F1...
As for Harris, it all sounds a great lip service to me, especially co-inciding with the McLaren launch.

With the MP4-12C being the Middle Car in McLaren's eventual 3 car lineup, how is it possible to significantly improve on its performance with the Top Model?
What will the Top Model have to be capable of to justify at least $200,000++ premium over the price of the 12C ??

Pagani by McLaren or even Veyron by McLaren.
"Form follows function"
The MP4 will be a great sports car. Mclarens are McLarens.
Any vehicle that runs 22lbs of turbo boost car will make some people very happy.
There have been some other McLaren V8s.
And from the little known closet of Mclaren : If you cant wait to get your MP4, you can get one of these McLarens to hold you over...
