Useless PSM on my 986????
Just challenged the extremely bad weather here in Denmark today.
We had sleet, snow, ice, wind...the works.
Had to drive 40 km (appr. 28 miles) back from a meeting, and the trip was an accident waiting to happen.
After thaw yesterday we had frost today, and combine that with heavy snowfall and you get...tadah! The NHL automotive playoffs.
There were cars in every single ditch in sight and people drove 25 km/h (appr.17 mph) tops.
Being the proud owner of a spaceage technical piece de resistance with PSM, ABS, PCMCMPMC, MSMD and not to mention WTERTS44%, I felt pretty confident that this was no task for my Boxey.
But hell, did I wake up and smell the coffee!
Everytime I tried to even THINK about touching the speeder, the car would slide sideways at 3 km/h!! I mean SIDEWAYS while standing almost still!
Between 0-15 km/h in 1st gear the PSM has absolutely no effect what so ever. None.
After that it sets in with its hallmark shake, rattle and roll and makes sure I dont make a total fool of myself in the slick.
It took me nearly TWO hours to drive the 40 km home in these treacherous conditions, partly because of extremely slippery ice-covered roads (like nothing ive ever seen) but also because of my Boxeys inability to get a grip.
Heck, I was even "dragracing" a Skoda! And he won easily!...and I had to stop trying to follow a gigantic tow-truck on the freeway after he gave me the slip...at 45 mph!?!?!?!
Maybe I was simply being the most cautious and sensible of the drivers out there today, and maybe I was overtly worried about denting my precious car...but I have never ever had such a hard time driving any car as I did mine today. It was simply all over the place the moment I added just one gramme too much to the weight on my right foot. And yes, I drove in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear most of the time.
Please tell me if this is just the downside to a mid-engine car...or that the Boxey was never meant for these conditions.
The car is the best I have ever driven on dry tarmac (even beats the 360 Spider when it comes to handling IMO), but the suckiest I have ever tried in this weather.
Can I adjust the PSM, or is this just the way it is?
