    My New Toy!!!

Just sold my heavily modified C5Z06 to it's happy new owner, and finally got myself a new Z06. The car is absolutely amazing and does everything well. I thought my track car was fast (and it was) but this thing is hyperfast. You can feel every ounce of of those 7 Liters under your foot. The torque is like nothing I have every felt. I have driven very light cars with 5.7 Liter's and it still doesn't compare. It doesn't matter what gear and what speed, the car pulls like a rocket.

I was particularly amazed at the gearing. I knew the car was geared very long, but until you drive one for a while you don't realize how long. I got the car up to 59mph in first gear. I am sure you could hit 60. BUT what really amazed me was that I hit 90mph in SECOND! I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see if for myself. My former Z06 would have been HEAVY into 3rd at 90mph.

Even though my track car had bigger sway bars and stiffer suspension, on a back country road I was easily hitting 1.2G on street tires. I can't wait to see what this thing does on R compounds.

The brakes were very good and I was pleasently suprised, as I have heard both negative and positive things about them. The real test will be at the track, and then I will see how they hold up after 5 30 minute sessions. But at the very least, the stopping force was as strong as my C5Z06 with custom wilwood racing calipers.

I was suprised how smooth the car drove for how low it comes from the factory. I think it needs to come down about 1/2 and inch to tighten up some of the body roll.

The car was a 2LZ and came with NAV, Bose, XM, heated seats, memory package, and all the electronic goodies. I was on the line about this stuff as usually I am a purest, but the price was right as I got the car for the same price as a 1LZ, so I took it.

The car is very wide and the tires are huge (325/30/19). R compounds won't be cheap, but that is the way it goes sometimes.

I was pleasently suprised at the interior and it looks much better in person than in photo's.

I don't like the rims as every Z06 around has either polished rims or chrome. I liked the comp grey, but they are impossible to find. I think I am going to get some custom black 3 peice rims and use the stocker for the track.

I now have to order a new harness bar, brake pads, rims and track tires. I am also waiting for my hitch so I can trailer my tires behind me to the track.

Oh...and after 3 black corvettes, 2 blue cars, and 1 red, I just HAD to do the victory yellow....

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Congrats Jersey, those Z's are badass! enjoy

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Three cheers for your new car!
Just make sure not to embarrass too many jet pilots .

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Congrats on your new Vette! Good bang for the buck.

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Car looks great in yellow! Also like the wheels of the Z06 very much. Enjoy!

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Your car looks great; wheels and all.

    Z06 is a fantastic value.

    Re: My New Toy!!!

    Congrats

    Yellow looks fantastic !

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Thanks everyone! I am very excited. As happy as I am with the car, I still can't wait to start working on the mods. Within the next couple of weeks, I plan to order a new intake and a set of headers. With a good tune, I expect somewhere around 480+rwhp or 540'ish at the crank. I figure for a 3100lbs car, that is plenty of power for the first year. Although, I promised myself I wasn't going to hack this car up like the last one!

    Re: My New Toy!!!

congrats on the z06! What a fantastic machine.

Enjoy it in good health, but based upon your posts, it sounds like you know how to handle it

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Congratulations 95Jersey to an incredible new car.

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Enjoy the car, I wish I could feel what a Z06 feels like

    Re: My New Toy!!!

    Congratulations! Excellent!

LOL... that's funny... but they are pretty impressive for a $60K US car.

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Congrats! It's a fantastic car, one of my fav really.

Might just as well use something along the lines of: "Feels like a very fast Beetle, powered by a hoover" .

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Awesome car jersey, mine is the same color. Mike I think i've asked you this before, can you not get a Z in SA?

You could import one yourself but then you'd only be allowed to utilize it on a track. You can't register LHD cars here

I believe they are now making these in LHD now. I don't remember, but I read it somewhere...

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Mike I'm really sorry to hear that, it sounds like a lame law if you ask me.

Jersey, did you mean to say that they are making them in RHD? If so, thats a big negative, Dave Hill has said that the Corvette will never be sold as a RHD

You are correct, GM will not make them in RHD. The article I saw was an aftermarket company that does this specifically for the C6 and Z06. I think the conversion cost is around $20-30k.

    Re: My New Toy!!!

Congrats man. Mine's yellow with grey forgeline rims, lowered via stock bolts, tune, LG headers, race filter and 160 degree stat. Runs like a rocket. Spins the tires all the way to 90. This car is so much fun. Congrats again.
