    Another LSD question

I searched the history of the forum and found many LSD comments, mainly "wouldn't it be great if they came standard". Seeing that they do not, and if you have a dedicated track car, has anyone found an after market brand that fits the S 6 speed? I found Quaife offers a 996 six speed LSD. Does anyone know if the S 6 speed and the 996 trans would be compatible with regards to the addition of an LSD?

    Re: Another LSD question

IIRC, Quaife discontinued the 996 LSD anyway. Many years ago, they only made one for the 986 2.5L 5-speed. I inquired with them if it would fit any other Boxsters or not. They said no, and had no plans to make them. Looks like they've discontinued them for all late model Porsches. Try Guard Transmission in California. I talked to Paul Guard a couple years ago, and I believe he could make them for the 986 S in either a TBD or conventional clutch pack. He could also make the conventional LSD out of new/used motorsports G50 parts, I believe, or new billet. He can set up the ramps/clutch packs whatever way you want. I think only your pocketbook was the limit. At least that's what I recall. Just waiting for my clutch to wear out...

    Re: Another LSD question

I find it very depressing that Porsche deliberately restricts the Boxster / Cayman for fear of it encroaching on the hallowed 911 range.

    Re: Another LSD question

There was a comparison of modified Cayman S on AMS TV a while ago. From what I remember, the TechArt and SpeedArt cars used a modified gearbox with LSD.

There seem to be some other companies that offer this transmission by now, Wendland Tuning for example.

If you are really interested in this, I'd have to search for it.

Porsche does not make a LSD for the Carrera either.

    Re: Another LSD question

That's incorrect Sir. Outside the US and Canada, the 997 Carrera S and Carrera 4S are available as a cost-free option with -20mm sports suspension WITH rear locking differential. The 997 Carrera and Carrera 4 can also be bought with a -20mm & rear LSD as a cost option (same price as upgrading from standard Carrera suspension to PASM).
