    New 2006/07 987S vs 2004 911 Anniversary Edition- HELP!

    Thanks for your opinions about the comparison between a base 997 vs a 2004 911 Anniversary edition; what do you guys/gals think about a 2004 911 Anniversary edition (<10K miles) vs a new '07 987S(with the 3.4L cayman engine)- besides the top down enjoyment of the boxster, which do you guys would think is more enjoyable/exciting to drive? I've had a '05 Boxster S, and am considering a 2004 911 Anniv Edition, but it's not a local car, so I'd appreciate any insight you might have! The price is about the same, and thus the comparison- Thanks-

    Boxster is a very nice car but you can not compare it to a 911 I think.
    I would choose the 911 but there is a lot to say for open top driving. Both are exiting cars anyway.

    the 40th eition 996 is a serious sportscar with sport suspension and a LSD, not to mention the X51 PWR upgrade to 345 hp. The ride is perhaps more harsh than you might expect. It is a special edition 911 - in my opinion the sportiest normally aspirated 996 short of the GT3.

    I'd take the 996, but my best advice to you is to drive both and then decide.

    I vote 996. I think the 40th edition is absulutely beautiful, and has all the right equipment and colors. A real knockout. I just can't get past the Boxster's "cutie-pie" persona, no matter how zippy it drives and handles.. I'd buy one for the wife, and that's about it. Call me sexist, I can take it...

    Got 06 997S and 03 986S (and 04 M3). Boxster is a fun car to drive. Top down is even better. You've got to think your way around things; with the 997S most problems are solved with more pressure on gas pedal.

    A few public comments received on my BoxsterS were derogatory ( i.e. "That's the Porsche with panties," and "That's the slow Porsche.") Unless it is praise, everybody else shuts up when they encounter the CarreraS.


    On the roads and highways, I'll take whichever P-car has more HP. Too many times aholes speed up when you try to pass them.

    The Carrera requires driver Ed, you have to learn some things to get the most out of the car. The Boxster is ready to drive spiritedly right out of the box. Boxster is fun. Carrera is serious.

    Look at the hp/tq. 40th Anniversary Ed. has, I think, 345hp. Not bad.

    I'm sorry I didn't get this at first. You already "did" the Boxster..., THAT changes everything... .

    Get the 911, If my 986S were suddenly gone I wouldn't miss it. I don't drive it that much since I got the 997S.
