    Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

I received the following email from Porsche Exclusive Division explaning the various Aluminum/Leather Shifter/Handbrake options. DAD, DAW, ECA, & DAX and how they work with deviating stitching. Very interesting as it explains that just getting 09991 with the option isn't enough to get the deviating stitching.

    Dear Mr. Frixxxxxxx,

We have two types of shifter and handbrakes in leather / aluminimum:
    Options ECA and DAD
To get deviating stitching on the ECA type shifter / handbrake, please order option DAX.
To get deviating stitching on the DAD type shifter / handbrake, please order option DAW.
When ordering DAX or DAW, the deviating stitching has to be specified in comment text, not Z 09991.
Attached is a sheet for clarification.

Sorry, the dashboard trim strip is not available as a single option; it is only available as part of the Carbon package (803).

    Best regards
    Jochen Biemann

Many thanks indeed, as this answers my thread I opened the other week:

Re: Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

    Fascinating info

Re: Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

Very interesting..they must have changed things around for 2008. I was told previously by the folks at the exclusive department that you'd have to get option 09991 and DAD to get deviated stitching. I guess now you have to get DAW with DAD and ECA with DAX. I wonder if you'd still have to get 09991 on top of that too perhaps for the OTHER exclusive options such as the model logo compartment cover, etc.

Re: Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

I am interpreting this as if you want the deviating stitching on DAD you order DAW - not DAD or both. The same if you want ECA with deviating stitching, order DAX, not ECA or both. Then specify in comment text, which must be a fill in on the Porsche computer order site, that you want deviating stitching. I agree that you need to order 09991 to get the stitching on other exclusive options. The new price for DAD is 1,555.00 - down 125.00. The DAW price is 2,130.00. I guess that difference in price is for the stitching. If you had to order both DAD & DAW, it would make for one very expensive shifter/brake. Not that Porsche is shy about charging for options

Re: Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

Ah thanks for clearing that up! That does make sense now! I guess Porsche finally saw fit to simply their ordering process a bit. I still wish that they had just ONE option code for ALL stitchings instead of having us order them piece by piece.

They have one code for all stitching. I ordered it in Guards Red and the code is SZ.

Re: Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

For me it's to late, but it still sounds like a crap shoot for trying to get stitching in the color you want and on the items you want. At this point I wouldn't feel comfortable ordering deviated stitching unless I were able to communicate directly with the lady at the sewing machine!

Re: Shifter/Brake Stitching Explained from Porsche

SZ must be a new option code for 2008. Do you mind sharing the cost?

You're so right! It can be a crap shoot!
