Where is the big advantage? Horst von Saurma said, only really professionals can find a little advantage...
    Isn't HvS a pro?

    Sad for me...

    Re: 997 GT3 RS- Supertest

So is it official now? The 997 GT3 RS is just a "wannabe" car? Only a show model because it is only more expensive and more flashy than a normal 997 GT3?

Porsche say they homologated certain parts including rear track width with this model, for their RSR racer. So if we believe them they didn't do it for show only. Having said that, they didn't miss the opportunuity to make some extra profit at a marginal increment in cost (as they always do).

The changes are just cosmetic, even more the wider body of the RS should be of some disadvantage in certain circumstances.

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Porsche needs to work very hard on their products.

997TT, GT3, GT3RS etc.: no progress in an environment of rapidly improving competitors.

Porsche will run into problems soon. Just my guess

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Well it only confirms that the standard GT3 is the best bargain out there...

And that the 996 GT3 RS was really, really special.

The 997 is just harvesting previous fame without seeding anything new. Ah, PAG!

(Now I know why the GT3 RS sport auto Supertest was published with some delay...)

For the premium of the RS they could have at least made the PCCB standard.

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Now the 996 Gt 3 Rs will increas in price as second hand car it is really speciall and will always be with the
best performance and limited production nr

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

So what happened to the 7:42 the Rohl posted on a public track having to pass five cars while he was at it. That was stated in the January Excellence?

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

HvS does all the Supertest laps. He's not as fast as WR, but it's good that the tests have some consistency. It means that WR can drive the 997GT3RS faster than 7:48, but it implies he could do about the same as the new RS as with the 996GT3RS and 997GT3...

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Were all 3 cars run on that day? Or are they just comapring time from last years test?

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Of coures not! But the 996 Gt3 RS was testet in same conditions.

Between the weather conditions of the GT3 test and the 997 RS test there is a bigger difference.

    Air temperature:
    GT3: 23 Grad
    RS: 17 Grad

    Track temperature:
    GT3: 31 Grad
    RS: 21 Grad

The testet GT3 had no CS-package! The GT3's weight was 1440 including gas, the RS weighed 1424 kg including gas.

    Acceleration:
    0-100 km/h: both 4,3 sec
    0-160 km/h: both 9,2 sec
    0-180 km/h: GT3 11,5 sec
    RS 11,1 sec

    0-200 km/h: GT3 13,9 sec
    RS 14,0 sec

    Breakperformance:

    100-0 km/h warm: GT3 33,2 m
    RS 34,6 m

    200-0 km/h warm: GT3 130,4 m
    RS 135,4

    Car costs (german prices):

    GT3: Euro 130 964 incl. VAT
RS: Euro 146 109 incl. VAT

Both cars were equipped with PCCB and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. Gear ratio is exactly the same.

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

    KF,

Do you have the weather conditions for the 996GT3RS as well?

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

    Sorry, not the exact conditions.

I hope you are correct. I just bought an almost brand new 996 GT3 RS with 7000km last month. It was always very appealing to me anyway. I wanted to buy the 996 RS when it was new but was afraid it would become obsolete once the 997 RS would come on the market. Since this is absolutely not the case I decided to buy a car as close to new as possible and at the same time save a bundle.
And being in white/red and limited is a bonus too.

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

    Congrats to your new toy

Great choice, did you keep the 993?

Of course, the 993S is my baby .
    Could never sell it.

BTW: No SuperTest of the 997TT yet either... Probably no good sign.

However, in case of the 997TT the right benchmark (thus, 996TTS with x73) is not available which will undoubtly help to market the 997TT SuperTest as a positive result. Only few will notice that the 997TT is as disappointing as the 997GT3 RS is. Basically, no progress at all

SportAuto reports that Röhrl did the NBR in 7:45 (GT3 RS) and 7:47 (GT3), respectively.

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

0-200 times conflict with Sport Auto's previeous tests where they acheived 13.9 0-200 for the 997GT3 and 13.5 for the GT3RS.

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Some are judging to quick here. This whole case is not so much a matter of the cars we are talking about, but much more a matter of tires and altering test environments. If you do not carefully take the tire situation in consideration, then you compare apples with peaches.
1.) 996 RS had Pirelli Corsa tires. They account for the difference to the normal GT3 in the first place.
2.) 997 PS-Cup tires are not as fast in the dry as those 996RS tires. They are probably in the middle between normal PS2s and those Pirelli Corsas. So the 997 RS has to overcome that disadvantage to be even.

I do not even start with the wheather factor which actually was in favor for the 997RS Hockenheim laptime.

The conclusion from all of this seems clear. 997 GT3/RS is faster than 996 GT3/RS, but by such a small margin that it does not make sense to spend the money to swap cars for performance reasons. Both owner groups can be very happy with what they have.

Then again, I would have loved to see a 7:42...

you're not right... There are two corsa-versions. I had both. The serial one for the 996 Gt3 RS is slower than a michelin pilot sport cup! Only the hardcore corsa version is faster

Re: 997 GT3 RS- SportAuto "Supertest"

Would the fact that Porsche was selling the RS for the first time in the US cause it to incorporate features into the car that compromised its perf vis-a-vis the 996RS which was not allowed in the US?

Of course I am assuming the car tested was eligble for US import.
