    First drive with 997 C4S

    I will give my first impressions with driving the 997 C4S.
    I have never owned a P, but have, since Mai this year gone for numerous 'test ' drives, some on the track. So, my experience reflects only where I come from..

    I went for a 1 and 1/2 hour drive on highway, country roads and went up and down twice a small mountain pass.

    My very first impression was that the clutch is softer, that to start from standing still it doesn't need much pushing on the throttle and the release point of the clutch is very easy to find. I don't know if this might come from the small traction on the front wheels. On the C2S, I felt that one has to really pull the car away and that it is harder to have a clean start ( when no experience)

    The second thought was: The journalists are liars!!! ( RC..I know what you were mentioning now )
    I could feel immediately the difference between the C2S and the C4S. The front is heavier and the steering also... not that it is a problem.

    The C4S is a very relaxing car.... very easy to drive, isn't more like a ' normal' car , the C2S is more like a sports car.
    At high speeds it is extremely confidence inspiring, specially on highway.

    It does under steer more ( but not at all like the 996 C4S) and it is hard to make the back slip... too much grip, making it a little bit less 'fun'.

    But...the speed on can go in fast corners is AMAZING !!! Once feels the car has endless grip and it could handle quite a lot more HP ( i did also miss some HP on the C2S )

    I have not been able to make the back slip ( also not my car, open roads..) but I have once stopped with all 4 wheels...very soft, very easy to control.

    It will be a great car for me to learn how to 'play' with a 911... but knowing I will also look forward for the more sporty feel of the C2S.
    As mine will be -20mm with LSD it might be also different ..

    To resume, I find the C4S a very easy and relaxing car compared to the C2S... so it is a little bit heavier on the steering wheel and in the front with some of the classic 4WD behaviour , less 'fun', yes, but I think one could well be able to go quite a bit faster around some corners with the C4S than the C2S.... and it is so easy and relaxing that one can have a drink, smoke a cigarette, talk on the phone at the same time

    The big butt will look even bigger from the rear with the -20mm .. Its going to look awesome ,, how long now ??

    Glad you liked it Gnil!! And with the -20mm it will feel much sportier (an less relaxing ) I guarantee you!
    A C4S with -20mm is a great compromise, and a great choice for being your first 911, your climate, etc... not as sporty as the C2S (yes journalists are liars, they tell you what you want to hear) but still plenty enough lets not forget, and a bit more noble and safer... as you say relaxing

    Hey Gnil.. I had the same problem when I first bought a C4S. I thought It would not be as fun. Once you get the hang of its Power/Handling you will be surprised how easy it is to get the Back out! I'm loving it!

    Nice feedback, thanks a lot.

    Regarding journalists: some of them try hard to write down an honest opinion, others have an honest opinion but really don't have a clue what they're talking about and there are also journalists who are so happy to be able to drive such a car in a nice environment (of course invited by Porsche ) that they would write ONLY nice things.

    It is always easier to get a good comparison if people just walk over to their dealer and take a few cars for a ride to compare them. This is usually the BEST method to find out which car is "suitable" for yourself.

    There is nothing wrong with the C4S, it is a beautiful car and I bet that the 20 mm chassis option will add more fun and less understeer. And the fact that you're mentioning that the C4S could easily take more power is the reason why I usually recommend to go for a "naked" 997 Turbo instead of a very well equipped (and pretty expensive) C4S.

    And of course there is the upcoming 997 GT3 which will be the REAL "bargain" of the whole 997 model line, considering that the recent rumors are true.

    Anyway: we have interesting times ahead of us and some of us even have to take "difficult" buying decisions. But I wish this were the ONLY problems we guys have in our life...

    Excellent write-up, Gnil!

    I wish all users could comment on any car like that. I do believe as well, that the C4S with -20mm suspension could be a very good compromise between safety, handling and stability under all circumstances.

    For me iit personally sums up that both models, 2WD and AWD, can be equipped in very entertaining configurations. Actually it looks as if you can specit to your own desire, might it be for safety or a focus on handling.

    If the new GT3 will be a "bargain" is a bit doubtful to me - Porsche sadly will know how to price that thing!

    I think RC means bargain by bang for the buck???

    Then again the GT3 always was that. It could take on Ferraris
    for a fraction of the price!!

    Yes...we do have a great autumn this year (20 degrees C in the last two days!!) Colors are fabulous!
    The C4S would just be perfect to have fun at 71 degrees north!!!!!!

    Beautiful C4S I did not know that they were out. I traded an 05 996C4S for an 06 997S and the 997 S handles better than the 996C4S despite the fact that the 996 was a 4 wheel drive. Now how much better is the new 997C4S than the 997C2S in terms of handling? I know it's wider but is it noticeable if one is driving on the freeway in front of you? And is 997 C4S a bit slower due to weight in comparison to 997S

    Indeed, the most popular 911's in Norway is not surprisingly the C4 and C4S.

    Please post more pictures of your car. It looks very nice, but it's kinda hard to tell from the phonecamera pictures

    The C4S does not have the same sporty feeling as the C2S, at least in my opinion, but it has a wonderful feel to it once you get used to it

    This was not my car....it's the demo car from the local dealer. I should get mine in about two weeks!!!!!!!
    I will , of course, post some good pictures.
    As in Norway, in Switzerland, they sell 2/3rds of C4/C4S
