    Re: The new Ford GT

Oh, further more, that 'EcoBoost' 3.5L V6 uses the same block from the Duratec V6, which is also originated from the Mondeo V6 introduced in 1993.

The Aston Martin's V12 can also traced it roots back to the Mondeo/Duratec V6. Ford mated 2 3.0L version of that block to create the 6.0L V12 for Aston Martin.

And yes, I like to really technical when I try to differentiate whether an engine is consider unique or just a variant of another.

Yes yes, Whoopsy,  we all know your 918 is the only bespoke engine ever made and it's blessed with fairy dust and unicorn blood.

    Sarcastic much?

The Porsche DFI flat 6 is a clean sheet, the Porsche 4.8L V8 currently in the range is also another.

The 4.0L V8 in the Mercedes was also a clean sheet design. So was the BMW V8TT.

There are also all sorts of unique engines in the world, but you are too narrow minded to see.

So many 'experts' here, maybe they should look before leaping.  Just because people play 'call of duty' or 'grand theft auto' or 'Madden NFL', doesn't make them a expert at anything but pressing the power button on.

    Re: The new Ford GT

If you don't care about the details of cars, then you have come to an interesting decision on where to share your lack of appreciation for detail. heart  I do kind of hope you are just a simple code jockey and don't actually make any decision regarding logic.

Of course the logic of this Ford GT is just to build an engine showcase. I hope they don't inadvertently disappoint too many customers. Seems rather poorly conceived IMHO.

    Re: The new Ford GT

The main reason why it was build was LeMans - and the homologation they needed to compete. simple facts.

now my 2 cents : they are a bunch of liars by low-balling on pre-LeMans races a purpose build a car (lowest drag / CW stirnflaeche) in order to get a favourable BOP - hence bigger chance to repeat their LeMans victory.

now they just take this adorable looking car and put a less than average engine in it and sell it for a good laugh. I would never buy such crap. no offense to any Ford fan - but how much of a ride will the "consumer" be taken here ?

    Re: The new Ford GT

Huh? Not sure why you'd think that. It will make a GT3 look like it dropped anchor.

    Re: The new Ford GT

A 650S will make a GT3 looks like it dropped anchor already. Hell I imagine even a 570S can do that too.

    Re: The new Ford GT

I'm merely implying that an "average" motor can still be massively better than a highly acclaimed one.

Let's be fair here though. No one has even driven a Ford GT yet. To say it's an average truck motor at this point is pretty baseless and absurd. What's more likely is not that the Ford GT has a tuned truck motor, but that a truck has a de-tuned GT motor, thus a truck potentially has a better motor than a GT3.

We'll see soon enough. I got my money on the everything about the car being superlative.

    Re: The new Ford GT

I'm not sure who at Ford thought a V6 (in any form) would be the way to go, but that person gets a frown and east west head nod from me..., boo.   What a shame is all I can say.   Ask any car nut, "what would you rather have, a V8 or a twin turbo V6?"   I'm willing to bet, not too many would choose the V6, no matter what the car looks like.

This is the same as getting light beer with high alcohol content to me..., no thanks.

    Re: The new Ford GT

What difference does it make if it's a turbo?

Well no, Ford took the truck motor and tuned it up for the Ford GT and race it, all to promote the EcoBoost truck motor for the F-150.

Why? They want more people to buy the V6 F-150 to lower their average fuel economy, nothing more.

The EcoBoost tested great on the EPA cycle where it ran off boost basically the whole time. But in the real world where one has to really step on it to get the same power from the V8s, it does more poorly than those V8s.

    Re: The new Ford GT

If one really want to go technical about the V6, then here it is.

Ford uses a 60 degreefor the Duratec/EcoBoost V6, that configuration is mostly balanced, but not quite, inline 6 is a perfectly balanced engine and a 120 degree V also. Flat 6 engines in the Porsche are also more balanced than the 60 degree V. A 60 degree V6 needs extra weight added to the crank shaft for balancing purposes, thus making it heavier and less lively to rev.

The only benefit of a 60 degree V6 is that it is very compact, that's it.

A cross plane V8 has a distinctive rumble, the trademark American muscle tone. A flatplane V8 will have a race car like bark, and the flatplane crank also don't have any counter weight and it will rev up much faster than a equal displacement cross plane V8.

The only place where a V6 is preferred is marine outboard engines. In cars, it only represent a compromise, for fuel economy only.

    Re: The new Ford GT

This just in: Ford truck engines compete with 911 and Ferrari sport car engines. They must be just blowing obscene amounts of cash developing these cars when all they need is the motor design from a $30K truck.

Hopefully we'll see Cayenne engines in the next GT3 RS...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the previous FGT use an F-150 motor as well? Granted it was out of the Lightning F-150, but still - let's keep things in perspective.

    Re: The new Ford GT

The coming Mustang GT500 might have a twin turbo V8 with 800hp. So all of you saddened by the eco boost v6 in the FGT will have something else from Ford to talk about.

Technically the Lightning engine has 2 valves and the F-GT one has 4 valves. But yes, they all came from Ford's bread and butter modular series of engines.

In Bill Cosby's case; you write a great comedy routine about it and sell the car to someone else to die in it. yes

    Re: The new Ford GT

Guess those initial Ford GT just dropped in value even before they enter production.

    Re: The new Ford GT

500 people lost some value and 500 people just gained some.

Old FGTs have appreciated massively and they made much more than 1000 of them. This car will still be worth a ton.
