RC, in fact i am looking forward. i have always had this car in the back of my mind since it was in G55 guise.
its ancient tech always kept me off in the last minute and i went for Cayennes and Xs instead of it.
but when i really laid down which car would best cover my needs vs the spec of the car on paper the G came out on top by a margin.
i do not need an SUV that can go 260 or 280...i do not need 4.2 sec acceleration, i do not need the best cornering SUV with ceramic brakes.
i need a solid timeless SUV with a fun engine and a nice sounding exhaust tune and some character. all boxes crossed.

after a 2 months transit time in customs the car finally arrived last week. as I was away on a holiday, I had my first test drive today.
as already mentioned, I had never driven a G before.
the first bend was quite funny.....I was prepared to experience some bending...but was totally unprepared for how much the car actually bends sideways....its a joke really. far worse than I could have dreamed of.
while this sound quite negative, it is actually quite fun.....different to what we have become used to. any Japanese suv has better road handling.
the engine ofcourse is a typical amg masterpiece. great torque and suits the car and gearbox perfectly. the brakes are great and the car does not dive as much as one would expect based on the way it leans into bends.
interior feels quite luxurious in its own kind of way. seats are comfortable. seating position is more pajero than mercededs suv.
based on the 100 km testdrive I had I am very please with the car. its a city cruiser, not an autobahn car.
I was comfortably going 140 km/h but cant see myself going 200 km/h unless the road is low on traffic and very straight.
as a package for someone who has other cars its a very cool add-on.....as a main suv, definitely a no go.
for my purpose it is great and comfortable on our roads. the sound is half the fun.

Are you sure you like it? Your short report sounds a bit like a mixed bag...
I think this car is perfect for the region you live in, especially as a daily driver.
A performance SUV like a Cayenne Turbo S or a BMW X6/X5M only make sense for the Autobahn.
I love your car, I just wish I could afford one as a family SUV. Enjoy in good health and I am pretty sure you are going to love it sooner or later.

I would love to own a G63 but for the German Autobahn, a Cayenne Turbo S or a BMW X5/6M probably make more sense. Depends... The only problem would be my wife: She isn't a fan of the G63, it looks too "outdated" and not stylish enough to her (this is actually the reason I love the G63, it is special).
If I had the money for such a car, I would get a G63 in a heartbeat.

It feels heavy but I actually like the drive feel of the G...like a truck, feels very safe.

Swear to god, my biceps got more of a workout turning the damn wheel than going to the gym.

Try a 911 without the Power Steering Plus...same thing.

RC....I definitely love it....I thought that my comments would come around as being negative...
I was just being very honest about the way it handles in comparison to any modern car. The handling of this thing feels outrageous in comparison to modern cars. But when put into context its just a very cool package and the funny handling is part of its DNA. In fact, I think I am happy that I went for this one before the more modern version comes out, as it will be a very different car despite the retro looks.
The W463is the real thing.
It would be the same if I would compare my cobra to a 911.....different worlds.
At my first traffic light a truck driver asked me if it was diesel or gas and if it was for sale....he actually thought it is 30 or 40 years old 
and no, I did not correct him
