    718 Cayman for China

Porsche offers a 718 Cayman model specifically for the Chinese market at a reduced price (cheaper than base 718 Boxster).

250 hp and 310 Nm torque (reduced from 300 hp and 380 Nm), 0-100 kph in 5.6 sec. (instead of 4.9) and Vmax 260 kph (instead of 275 kph).

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

Does it also have a long wheelbase? Never mind; it's a 2-seater. So I suppose your driver will drive it, and you can follow in the stretched Panamera...

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

Terrible stereotyping; I should apologize. Especially since my father used to have his driver drive his Mercedes 2-door S-class while he rode in the passenger seat. Made sense given manual transmission and stop-and-go 60's-70's Beirut traffic. I imagine Chinese cities are similarly congested today.

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

They just wanted to sell it cheaper...apparently the 600000 Renminbi mark (limit) is important for Chinese buyers, for whatever reason.

I guess it is due to tax reasons. Some EU markets have also taxes based on hp. In Belgium and Norway for example the Macan S diesel has 211 hp instead of the 258 hp for the other Eu markets.

Smiley That's generally the explanation for special models for specific markets.

It has something to do with the price tag, not the hp figure but I don't know why that 600000 mark is so important.

The price tag and the hp are directly related in this instance due to the tax, I think that's the point being made.

There may be a misunderstanding here: In some countries, the tax is related to hp output and even the capacity of the engine or even emissions.

In China, it seems that Porsche reduced the power to be able to sell the car cheaper, so they hit the 600000 Renminbi mark, for whatever (tax?) related reasons.

The Car and driver article on this appears to agree with you, that this is only being done to allow a lower price, and has no effect on tax. (Other than, I suppose standard sales tax, assuming that applies in China.)

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

As regarding to Belgium, it's mostly CO2 emmissions you will pay for.

I remember I paid 5000€ one shot tax for my Jag XF (179 g CO2, 2010) while the new 991.2 (still waiting for...) will only cost around 890€ (169 g CO2). That's exactly why I went for the base model with pdk. (company wise though).

    regards.

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

In China, tax are based on the engine size, but its the other taxes are adding up to:

    53% (2.0liter)

    60% (2-2.5liter)

    66%(2.5-3liter)

    95%(3-4 liter)

    144%(4liter above)

that's why a 458 could cost up to US$600K+ in China and 675LT well above US$1million

China does not have GT3RS cause it will cost US$400K, so Porsche China decided not to bring in, and nobody placed any order on this car either.... Turbo S did not appear much q'ty in China either due to its price above US$450K. The brand value had been washed down by Cayman or Macan of which they are planning to sell big q'ty on.

as for the reason they decreased the HP on Cayman/Boxster is because Porsche AG is offering China cheaper price to hit the market with more volume with these cars.   ultimately Porsche is about making money, regardless of how to get to that profit.

Very interesting, thanks for clarifying. Smiley

Shouldn't this depend on how long you keep the car? Why is it a one-shot tax, not a yearly one?

To encourage people to buy low CO2-emissions vehicles from new, instead of just "punishing" them annually throughout a vehicles life for having made a "bad" choice.

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

Actually, there are 3 kind of taxes (and you will pay all of them....)

    1)  a one shot tax for 'putting the vehicle info traffic' which is around 890 euro (depending on different aspects, but lots cheaper then some years ago).

    2) an annual tax (dunno how much for the P yet)

    3) if it's a company car, you will pay monthly the VAA (advantages of all sort) depending on the CO2 exhaust and the official price without reduction. For my particular P car it's a so called advantage of 11000 euro's a year Smiley, for which I will pay about 40% of as it is considered a extra loan/revenu. So this is yearly another 4400 euro I will have to pay personally. However, the latter is degressive each year (I think after 4 years it's 70% or something)

    Any country doing 'better' ?Smiley

I once knew a Dutch guy who registered his supercar at his second home in Belgium because the taxes there were much more favourable than in his "home" country. (Though he surely won't have run that car as his company car, so term 3) would not have applied to it).
Have things changed since then, or is the Netherlands still even worse?  Smiley

    Re: 718 Cayman for China

It is true. They have what is called BPM. That's a one shot tax too. There are dutch members here, they can explain better, but now I understand why they drive the smallest car one can find ...for the 911 base it's around 15% extra.

there are reasons why there are so many Dutch people Living just across the border in Antwerp.

i really hope no one finds this offensive . Just trying to explain.
