    I hope this goes down the same route as the 911R did. Starts as a very limited model then a few years later, tick a box and add Dakar package to the GTS.

    Clearly, there is a need for an off-road alternative to the Nurburgring, so these Dakar-Sterrato like cars (I'm assuming most manufacturers will follow suit) can set records and grab bragging rights.

    I had the impression it's permanently 1.7" (44mm) higher than standard Huracan.

    I had the impression it's permanently 1.7" (44mm) higher than standard Huracan.

    Meaning it is less like to bottom out on potholes common in this part of the country.

    I guess the Sterrato is more of a collector's car, while the Safari is a collector's car which could if needed...

    I haven't been told about one way or another about PTS.

    I had put in my PTS Dakar order not long ago, it wasn't rejected. But then again I told them I REALLY wanted PTS Meissen Blue and I don't need to get my car early and I can wait for the PTS window......

    And they can build my GT3RS first as that one isn't PTS.

    Pretty sure your local Porsche dealer's parts department already have the part diagrams with part numbers already.

    Software that goes with them however will be a different story as the shocks are electronically controlled.

    We had our first snow of the season and I'm reminded why the 911 allroad seems wrong to me. The 911 is not a good design for off road or snow. There's no engine up front to melt snow on the hood so it all blows onto the windshield when driving, the frameless windows are a serious problem when iced and the door hinges seem to freeze up more than any other car I've owned. (At least my 991 door pulls give me some leverage; the silly 992 pulls are useless.) I've never driven my car on a dirt road, but I would imagine you would want a back seat full of spare air cleaners if you plan on getting dusty given the car's shape. Because you can do something doesn't mean you should. If Rolls Royce made a Phantom Outback we would be laughing our heads off.

    Those problems aside, I love the driving dynamics of a 911 in snow (even the RWD ones with good tires and LSD).

    I've driven thousands of miles on dirt in C2S Cab, turbo, turbo S, it's a tough well built design, no problems with normal maintenance and Dakar would add range with higher ground  clearance.
    the rear engine weights the drive wheels, so with good snows 911s are good snow cars, again limited by ground clearance.

    My one dirt road experience in my boxster  was pricey. Rock got stuck between pad and rotor  also something killed off one of the cooling fans. Beautiful drive up the old road over the pass in Rocky Mountain park, aspens in fall colors and a great lady by my side. 
     

    worth it!  But a more robust fun car would have been even better.
