DJM48:FP3 about to start
Good insights from Rosberg on the Sky feed. His comments re the inconsistency of the stewards with regards to the inside/outside car are spot on.
Much must be placed on Masi and the stewards for inconsistent application of the rules for this entire season. There’s nothing gained when the stewards assess penalties hours after the race has concluded and indicative of too many complex rules that are impairing the sport.

“Unmoved, Max Verstappen prepares for the most important Formula 1 race of his career. In an exclusive interview with De Telegraaf, the Netherlands' most popular sportsman discusses the heated battle with Lewis Hamilton, his own way of racing and his view of Formula 1. “If I had been in that car of his, the season would have been decided long ago. .”

Like him or not Verstappen has a knack for psychological warfare.

Great performance of Max, credits to him.
Lewis didn‘t deliver at all in Q3, what a disapointment.
His only chances are that MV starts on softs and that they‘ll last only for a few laps and he can take profit out of it.
Valteri was (again) no help at all, starting only at P6, even Perez was faster than him
Great qualifying by Norris. 3rd.
Max managed to keep his amazing pole time. Hamilton ended up just less than 0.4 behind.
He has achieved what he couldn't at Saudi. Securing pole to be in front of Hamilton.
But he will be starting on softs, vs Hamilton on mediums.
Max will have a great start with the softer compound and also from P1 on the clean side.
Wild card here would be because of the different tires, he and Hamilton will be on different pit stop windows, Which also means Hamilton doesn't need to pass Max on track. Their position swaps could be during pit stops.
It's suppose to be a 2 stop race, so Max could be doing soft-medium-medium. I believe he doesn't have another set of softs, at least not new ones. Likely he won't do a soft-hard, the hard may not last that long. His soft also won't last long at the beginning the race, heavy fuel load and soft compound don't play too well. But he will still have the pace early.
Hamilton on the other hand is a bit more flexible, his starting tires will last a bit longer, he might do one stop with medium-hard. Or he could do medium-hard-soft for his last stint to go even faster.
We should have a great race tomorrow.

And again it’s quiet obvious that Merc didn’t have the fastest car over the season.
Hopefully they made the right call and we’re tweaking their car for race speed as they did in Djeddah. In qualifying RB had the faster car but their race speed was far inferior to Lewis setup

thuggy:I think Max flat spotted a set of mediums in q2 so that strategy may not be available to him.
Right. He won’t have new ones but he could have a used set from FP2. He only did some light running on medium. It was mostly softs for him.
he was really honing his one lap pace throughout all the practices.

It’s all about the start and if Lewis can keep his starting position.
Maybe Lando will cover him in order not to let Max be the first WC of the next gen?!
I suppose Lewis still to be way faster than Max in race trim and with heavy fuel load Max will struggle very fast on the softs.
It‘s a pitty that Valteri lost even more pace compared to the sessions before, so I‘m even more wondering what this was all about…

His arrogance has made me dislike him more and more this season. He's unbearable. I've not felt like that towards any other of Hamilton's contenders in the past. Also RB with their protests...

I‘m still not sure who’s even worse, Max, Horner or Marko?
Not any other driver and/ or team in the past hast been talking badly about any other contender in F1 history, it‘s really a shame how they all behave! 🤮

It's true that RB people are behaving like tramps on occasions. I wanted to like Helmut Marko because of his Porsche past in sportscar racing but he was also sucked in. Even Adrian Newey, an otherwise very respectable engineer was entangled into this politicking.
RBR are under great pressure to win this year, probably because they know that this chance won't repeat itself.

"Porsche....and Nothing else matters"
Yep, Max really did get his big boy pants.
Key for Max to become WC, how much ahead can Max get from lewis on the first stint on those softs.
And Lando, saying he will not really get involved at the start of the race due to their fight, screw that, you are a racing driver, if you can get past Lewis then do so.

Max had a poor start while Lewis got a great one.
Didn't take long for Hamilton to take the lead, and also didn't take long for them to come together, like 30 seconds after the start.
And Horner's 'let them race' petition came back to bite Max right away. No investigation necessary for the come together.

Wording on the rule is gaining a lasting advantage.
Stewards deemed Hamilton had gave back enough meters gained by going off track. Also they were watching the feed and deemed Max had a fairly optimistic late lunge that pushes Hamilton off track in the first place.
So yeah, the stewards aren't very consistent as they are only starting to curb the bad driving from Max on the last race.

Max's move was just silly. If you go off the racing line to the inside with late braking all the way to the edge of the track, you have clearly forced the other car off track; and then to reward that transgression with an improvement in place due to a temporary misplacement of the car all seems a bit absurd to hope the stewards would see it your way.
I expected Max to get a 5 sec penalty for it.
