I just watches this morning "TopGear" and the test of the new R8. Sabine Schmitz was giving hard time to that car in Laguna Secca. Amazing - I don't have any words for it - really amazing car! Actually - the TopGear Car also was like yours Conny - red/black rims. It looks adorable. I would take exact same config!

The 20 inches wheels really pop on your R8!   They look good on a red car as well as on a blue car.  I keep looking at the R8 mk II and contemplate getting this instead of the NSX.

Thanks a lot for the good wishes, guys.kiss

The R8 is relatively small, compared with a sedan. In the garage he is almost completely hidden behind my 7 Series. Nevertheless, the R8 is 4 centimeters wider (measured without mirrors) than the 7 Series!! no
This shouldn't underestimated when maneuvering.broken heart

Congrats, Conny. Love the color combination, reminds me of RCs 996 Turbo, back in the days... but regarding the width: that is what worries me most with lots of sportscars out there (SLS, AMG GT, 488 etc) -- it's often a pain to drive these cars daily in cities, or on curvy country roads... That's why I think the compact 911 is unrivaled (and it even has rear seats). Why do cars always have to be so wide?

Regarding the R8: doesn't your codriver miss a screen to look on? I think it's strange from Audi (like with the TT) that only the driver can see the navigation map, radio station etc.

    As to the with:
I assume that this is done mainly for design reasons. It may look visually more sporty if a flat roof ends in a wide back.Smiley  Of course one could also desire a wider rear axle. I do not really know.Smiley

I drive infrequently with a passenger in sportscars. And if I do, my wife is the codriver.
Actually till now she hasn't noticed that she can't  view on a screen.SmileySmiley
She rather says that she feels very comfortable in the R8 seats, they would be perfect for her. But you must know she is just 1,67m. Most confusing for me: she finds the R8 "cozy".  SmileySmiley Smiley

It'll be ok unless she starts knitting in the car. In that case, I have no advice, but you may end up with a nice steering wheel cover.

Not just Audi, Ferrari also have cars like that, 458, 488, F12, where there is no screen for the passenger if one doesn't spec the passenger display.

Re: Audi R8 V10 Plus (2017 model) - Short Review

I think that Audi made a mistake by not offering an extra display for the co-passenger, even as an option but surprisingly, my wife doesn't miss one. Usually, she loves looking at the navigation display to see when we arrive somewhere but I guess the R8 being just a weekend fun car, it doesn't really matter to her.

What annoys me actually is the lack of the shifting paddles from the Huracan. The R8 paddles are as annoying as the Porsche shifting paddles, maybe even a tiny bit more. They have that horrible plastic feel and they move with the steering wheel, something I do not like. I guess Audi needs to offer some Huracan-Style shifting paddles at least as an option. So many carbon parts on this car, why no carbon shifting paddles?!

Speaking of width: We are on island Mallorca right now and I was discussing with my son how wonderful the R8 would be here because many roads are beautiful (nature) and some are leading through small towns with great "accoustics" left and right (bulidings next to the streets) but some roads are very narrow and it would be a problem driving a R8 here. I only have a BMW 4 series convertible as a rental (Maserati GranCabrio was sold out) here and this car is already a problem on some roads. Parking would also be a problem: The region we rented our house has garages in the court yard of the houses but the boardwalk isn't lowered anywhere, so it would be impossible to park the R8 inside that court yard. To avoid tire damage, I leave the BMW outside on the street.

A super sportscar has certain disadvantages, this cannot be denied.

Actually, IMO the best way to enjoy "fun rides" on the roads along the beautiful mountainous west coast of Mallorca is not by car anyway but by motorcycle...plenty of great corners and turns, plenty of great views and vantage points...best choice is a large capacity Enduro bike, e.g. BMW, Ducati, etc

Even better: bicyle. Smiley Always great to spent two weeks in spring on this beautiful Island. And because of lots of cyclists, cars and busses no fun with the car

I do not ride motorcycles anymore, too risky. Just watched a car yesterday taking the priority from a scooter and that guy was lucky, he avoided the car but still fell off his scooter. Luckily we were able to treat him before the ambulance arrived. Only minor scratches and a headache (he was wearing a helmet) but still... That guy in the car (small van) vanished.

Well, GM seems to have decided to build a mid-engined Corvette...I wonder why.  Where is Porsche in the game? The Boxster and Cayman won't cut it and the 918 is/was too expensive.

    Time for the "960", seriously.

As much as I would like to see a 960, I believe Porsche feels that it would compromise the 911 brand and configuration. The Cayman and Boxster are not  911's nor are they in the 911 class (forgive me grant and BluelinesSmiley). If Porsche did place a mid-engine model that would directly compete with its 911, the marketing will be  a nightmare.Smiley

Re: Audi R8 V10 Plus (2017 model) - Short Review

I get so much positive feedback with the car, it is incredible.

Just yesterday, while driving around for two hours with my son, we got several thumbs up from complete strangers, out of cars, from bikers, from the sidewalk, really amazing. Two bicycle riders at a stop light came over and asked if I can rev the engine and a scooter rider with his girlfriend told me that it is amazing how the flaps are opening and the brutal sound gets louder... A motorcycle rider on the Autobahn, he was faster than me (but not my much) showed thumbs up when a speed limit came and I passed him (he was riding slower than the speed limit), don't know why because he was faster and so on... Really positive feedback, maybe because this is an Audi? yes

The revving the engine thing seems to be a problem...at least once or twice a day I get someone shouting over from another car (or from the sidewalk), asking me to rev the engine. I don't want to end up on YouTube doing that, so I usually don't do it (especially if that particular person has a phone ready to take a video) but while it is flattering, it is also getting annoying. My wife didn't like the attention too much, she said people are nuts. angry

Overall, I like this car more and more... blush

I don't see how an hypothetical 960 would hurt 911 sells, they would be 2 very different products. With the correct (higher) price tag, engine, power output and design it doesn't necessarily have to overlap any 911 except the gt2 rs, which as a limited edition is going to sell anyway.

Does the F12 overlap the FF? I know, maybe not the best example but I think you get my point.
