I wonder if Mercedes will use the same V12 bi turbo engine in the GST. It make sense since they both share the same chassis. It will be a walk in the park for Mercedes to win back the 'fastest SUV' in the world title.
at least I know I will be in the market for one...
As far as I heard, the GST will not get any engine above 360 HP power, at least in the beginning. I'm also not aware that the S-class and the GST share the same chassis. As far as I heard, the GST chassis is a slightly modified ML chassis (new ML class!). Both models will be build in the US.
The new ML's AMG version is rumored to deliver around 460 HP using the supercharged V8 engine. But as always...rumors have to be taken with a grain of salt.
To fanch: I'm not sure if the steering is the only problem. It seems that the suspension setup isn't very sporty and this setup provides a pretty strange steering feel. A more direct steering would be desireable but different damper setups and swaybars too. There is a rumor that AMG plans a real sportscar in an acceptable price range similar to Porsche's GT3 and BMW's M3 CSL but no details have been published yet. It is very likely that it will be based on the CLK 55 AMG.
There is no doubt that Mercedes and AMG have the technical knowhow to build a great sportscar but I'm not sure if they have the customers for such a product.
