Fanch (your preference ) nothing really matters. But if you and the rest of are true to your principles you could buy a much cheaper car and get better performance whether it be stock or modestly modified. The car would be as balance and precise as you want it to be. Heck you can even get a nice big wing on the back(STI)just like the GT3 or GT2 .

The reality is you buy Porsche because it gives you performance and in your and others view BLING! .

You can tell yourself like others do that bling does not matter but you buy Porsche because it is a Porsche and there is a BLING BLING to it.

Why do you all deny what is plain on your face and people that know you? I read how Europeans find it vulgar in a business setting for someone to be driving a Porsche and how you owners are sensitive to the problem. Now why would Europeans think that way? Because it is a performance car or is it BLING BLING?

Stop fooling yourself and fess up. "I bought a Porsche because all my life I wanted one and once I began successful enough I fulfilled my dream BLING BLING .

Of course I like the Bling Bling factor Nick, I'm not going to lie. It is quite nice to know that your car is beautiful, but again, it really isn't my priority. Performance and verstility are top of the list.
And I'm afraid I'm yet to try a car that gives the same level of feedback for a fraction of the price.
I've tried the EVO8, AMAZING! so efficient, so fast, but a bit insipide somehow, ridiculous range because it drinks so much petrol, and the interior quality is very poor. A equally fast car as a 911 on open roads especially on mountain roads, but not as involving IMHO.
Even the M3 was a great drive but too heavy.

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

Why do Porsche have the option number 498 ? ( removal of the back logo) So , the argument saying: if Porsche has put it there , leave it there...doesn' t make sense. I do not like to walk around with a big brand name on any of my clothes...it's the same on a car. I do love Porsche, but I don't want to have inscriptions on the back. But , I guess, it all comes back to cultur prefrerence. The Swiss take of most of the logos (on Mercedes, BMW) . On the other hands, here, people originaly from the Balkans or Portugal tend to add logos ( turbo, 16V....) It's all a matter of personal preference and what one feels comfortable with.

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

    i must say
(due to the fact that i started this thread, and did not realize it would provoke such an interest ,to be honest),
i find all of your opinions very correct.

But basically i tend to the side of 69Bossnine and Carlos From Spain.

Their thinking is a little more deep and long routed.

I kind of like badges, and also 911(i think was put on the 996 anniversary model)

On the other hand i might of construct my nick "dilinger" and put it on there, shining from nickel, after all its almost the same letters!!!! ;!

    (carrera)
    dilinger !!

    Moreover its individual

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

Listen, if one stinking model-designation emblem amounts to overt "bling" on a 911, then I better start snipping the Fruit-of-the-Loom labels from my undies and pry the numbers off the front of my house and tell my mail carrier and UPS guy that they'll have to memorize it..... It's not as if we're discussing the existance of "3.8L Fuel Injected" badges on the fender, "Porsche" key-scratch-guards around the door lock, and a window-tint banner that says "Porsche Dollas, Yo" on the top of the windshield... Sheesh.....

And by the way, I don't buy shirts that say "Hugo Boss" in 12-inch letters wrapped around my chest either. You'll get no argument from me there.

As for the "stealth" thing, you guys need to lay off the Dungeons & Dragons!! LOL

    Re: Option 498

    BD997,
The three little numbers on your back are so elegant, discreet, and let's say chic.
But how can you suffer, just under them, this awful and vulgar white and red plate full of silly slogans and advertisements ? Shoking !
    SDP

    Re: Option 498

&9bossnine....I like your sence of humour...and you do have a point!

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

    simple as that:!

    Sorry Nick,

don't want to spend too much time answering this but the mentality in Europe is plain different than in the US (and I guess you already knew that).
The reason why you buy a car can be left open for each individually - those reasons should become obvious in the way they act and talk about their cars pretty rapidly.

...did you all think about going one level down in model designation for stealth purposes?..

...for example, replacing CarreraS w BoxerS?...
... or Turbo with just Carrera...

When I get my 997 S, I'm gonna take off the "997" and put a "7" after the "S". That would be soo cool. LOL !!

The "911" badging looks fine but why worry about removing letters ? I don't get it. Why worry about what other people think. It is what it is. If it's an S, it's an S. Leave your Porsche's badging alone.

If anything when the factory badging is removed/modified it becomes more XZBIT then leaving it stock.

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

the carrera logo is designed in matt finiss so that it does not stand out so much.
    take a look at this

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

and this, although it is not the best angle when you keep a distance it is not so obvious,if you have noticed what i am saying

    I don't care...

I actually prefer the look of the car without the badging - much cleaner, and to my point earlier why do you need the badge at all? I guess if you have Alzheimers and you forget what your car is called you might neeed it, but otherwise what value does it have?

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

So what does carrera mean - anyone ?

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

I thought it was a refernce to a race that Porsche previously competed in.

    mcdelaug

    Carrera Panamerica

Was a race through Mexico that ran through the 50's and 60's. Porsche won it so many times that they basically owned it.

When Porsche tried to move away from number designations they picked "Carrera" to reflect their racing heritage.

    Re: Carrera Panamerica

It was "THE race" in motorsport history... toughest race in the world, that gathered the most important drivers of motorsport of the time with over 3,000km of high speed racing public roads of 1950's Mexico... we will never see anything like it again.

Hmmmmm. The various "Gumballs" don't quite compare, do they!

To add to other explanations, Carrera, in Spanish, simply means the word "race."

The full name of the race was "Carrera Panamericana", right Carlos?

Re: Model Designation DELETE or NOT

Right, it means "Panamerican Race" in spanish.
