hi,
the salesman of the munich ferrari dealer told me that, as i was there last week.
they plan to shape the ex- and interiour, a powerincrease of about 50 bhp. i don't know if we should believe it, because there has never been a modificata eight cylinder.
but it could make sense, because they launch the new 456 late 2003. and the new 575 propably early 2005. so they have to save developmnet ressources and fill the gap in 2004 with a 360 modificata and release a brand new eight cylinder modell in 2006.

it's no speculation, there definite will be a successor to the 360. no major optical changes, though.

it'll be the first official V8 modificata, that's right. but it'll get a complete new engine (450-460 HP) and, according to my information, it's going to stay on the market for 5 to 6 years, like any other ferrari model range.
the step from 348 to 355, in terms of look at least, was also more kind of a modificiata IMO.
the "420M" (or whatever it'll be called) will probably be introduced at the geneva show in spring 2004.

Are you sure about the launch date as early as spring 2004?
I thought the successsor of the Modena is due in late 2004 or even spring 2005?
Also as far as I know, the car will get the new (Maserati) V8, with about 460 hp, some minor changes to the exterior (perhaps as good as these of the Challenge Stradale?) and a complete new interior (what I really would prefer).
As you already said, this all looks to me very similar as the upgrade from 348 to 355, so perhaps the new car won't be called "modificata" at all and will get an own name (e.g. F420) instead?
And how sure is that statement about the model lifetime of 5 to 6 years?
