    Re: 991 GT3 RS

i really love my GT3RS but i am starting to doubt that porsche has sorted the engine issues with the 2016 GT3RS engines. my car had an exaggerated oil usage from the beginning but today the situation got aggravated. it started after 40km mountain road driving with the usual 'engine oil minimum level reached' sign. so i put in slightly more than 1/4 of a liter, as advised by my PAG service manager. after 50km the warning came on again, so i put in 1/4 of a liter again. then same thing all over after 80km on the highway.....this is getting excessive, no? at present the car has done 4200km, so it should be fully broken in by now. any advice or thoughts?

    Thoughts?

I wish cars still had dipsticks so I could really know and not have a computer tell me who much oil it thinks is in there.

Sounds more like a sensor issue, I just hope you did not put in too much oil...

could be the sensor, sure, but what do you do when the warning comes on and you have no other way to double-check the oil level? the sensor was checked a month ago and it was ok back then....

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Straight to the dealer, let them sort it out.
Either the sensor is at failure, or the engine is consuming excessive amounts of oil. If you followed break-in procedure, this is their problem...

Actually, it is their problem whether you followed break-in or not.  Break-in is described as a "Hint" for best performance in the manual.  Not a requirement for warranty coverage...

Since it is impossible to over-rev the engine with PDK, there is not much the driver could do to lose his warranty (besides actual sanctioned racing, using unauthorized maintenance fluids or procedures, or modifying the car).

I guess you need to have the oil consumption/sensor issue checked again.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

......waiting for a call from my PAG service manager. clearly, if it is not the sensor, it is serious..

Yep, often the most low-tech solutions are the best...

Just put a whole liter of oil in my Macan only after 1.5 month visiting the dealer...

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

You have to get that looked at, they cannot ignore you having to fill it up so many times after so short drives, that can't be normal or within normal parameters. I know it's not the same engine exactly but my GTS has 25,000km now and I have not had to put any oil on it whatsoever since I drive it off the lot with 0km.
Whatever it is hope it's not serious Peter, keep us informed!

Yes, I have a similar (but non-X51) motor in my GT4 and it literally does not use 1 drop of oil (doesn't matter if I drive slowly, fast, or go to the race track).  Pretty remarkable motor in this respect (never had a Porsche that drank zero oil before).

The motor in the GT3 and RS are known to drink some oil (more when tracking), but this sounds excessive (or an indicator error) in this thread...

thanks carlos surely will do. the service manager told me that with a similar case in vienna they decided for an engine change and PAG was not pleased (neither would i be as an owner). now PAG insists on filling up the oil tank, then sealing the lid to know exactly how long it takes to get down low. such  stupidity, it is not in the owner's interest to exaggerate.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

I have now around 5k in the engine, broke it in according to Preuninger's recommendation (can be found on RL), changed the oil and filter at 3k. I have revved the nuts of the thing many times in the German Autobahn, driving many times above 300km/h, went up and down the Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse, having the oil almost at 110 deg. Celsius and hitting the rev limiter during a drift event several times, oil consumption 1 bar in almost 2k km.

Goes like stink,  sounds great , super responsive throttle, couldnt be happier with the engine. Even the gearbox rattles sound the same as they did in my 997GT3RS

Maybe a double post: after promising the nice girl in the Porsche museum that I will serve Monika breakfast in bed on Sunday she handed me the white 1/8 991 GT3 RS. :-)

FYI: There are 3 more white once at the museum shop. You must ask they are not on display.

    +1 to both those posts.

The car needs to be checked urgently.

25000 km? Smiley Mine has close to 10000 km now and I got it earlier.

Oil consumption? Maybe half a liter of oil so far...

i talked to my porsche service manager today. he mentioned that he has another customer with the same oil issue. that customer wanted to give the car back to PAG and take a turbo instead (after 3k km). PAG answered: fine and with pleasure, we habe 5000 customers who wait for an RS.

    strange answer, no?

pretty outrageous. i do to know whether this was the answer to the customer or to the PZ. anyway, they are doing the swap, GT3RS for turbo S, at base price levels.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Maybe the GT3 RS really wasn't for him but I know why I got bored of my Turbo S so fast... Perfection can be annoying at times. angry
