The FIA clarifies the Two-race engine rule. If you don't finish the race you may use a new engine for the next race, but if you do finish the race then you will be penalised 10 places in the grid of the next race if you decide to use a new engine. But you have to have a reason not to finish a race, so if you choose not to finish since you are looking to be out of the points in the race (like BAR which pulled the drivers into the pits on the last lap to be able to use a new engine on Malaysia) then you will be penalised now.

Also Ferrari is up to their usual doings, them against all the rest of the teams

    "Testing controversy continues
    By Nikki Reynolds - Motorsport.com

The stalemate between Ferrari and the nine other teams over limiting in-season testing continued in Malaysia, with the teams issuing a statement that once again called on Ferrari to fall in line. The Scuderia is still adamant that it will not agree to the proposal to cut testing to 30 days and believes the limit should be a mileage rather than a time-span.

However, the teams are equally stubborn. "Ferrari's actions not only potentially destabilise Formula One and increase costs, but also provide Ferrari with an unequal advantage over all the other teams," said the statement issued by Minardi.

"Inevitably, such action on the part of Ferrari can only increase costs within Formula One and undermine the principle of a level playing field in the sport. The nine teams are requesting that Ferrari now reconsiders its position and acts in a responsible manner to support this valuable cost-saving initiative."

In reply, managing director Jean Todt said Ferrari was the only team that contributed to Bridgestone's development (Jordan and Minardi are the only two other teams supplied by the Japanese manufacturer) and the statistics show that Bridgestone runners only did a quarter of the mileage that Michelin squads have done so far this year.

"This situation can hardly be seen as advantageous to us," he remarked. "When the previous testing agreement was coming to an end, we tried to find a new compromise, which took the reality of the current situation into account. Unfortunately this did not prove possible and therefore we felt that no testing guidelines were in place anymore and we intend to continue on that premise."

Todt claimed that Ferrari's test schedule would cut costs: "We wish to put on record that the test programme currently underway, without artificial limitation and more efficient in terms of its use of manpower and resources, will lead to a reduction in our costs currently estimated to be of the order of over two million Euro."

Technical director Ross Brawn said Ferrari would be at a disadvantage if it cut testing as Jordan and Minardi barely contribute to Bridgestone's development. "We couldn't allow ourselves to be disadvantaged by being the only runner on Bridgestone tyres, because -- with all due respect -- we get no help from Jordan or Minardi so it was impossible to find a compromise between the teams," he commented.

Reportedly the teams are also unhappy that Ferrari is flouting the agreement not to test in the week before a Grand Prix. Luca Badoer has been on the test track at Fiorano and Mugello over the last few days to work on the development of the F2005."

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

Carlos did you saw in tv, that alonso could probably had sign a pre-contract(or something similar) with ferrari, that he could be in ferrari for the next championship(2006)....

ALONSO will make at least 3rd in this grand prix, just remember his amazing 1rst place last year and know this provisional pole of today....He dind't forced so much the engine in last race, so lets see how this ends...
    Aupa ALONSO

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

Alonso for Ferrari? that would be great for him, but who is giving up the seat next year in Ferrari then?

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

I think it will Mr Schumi(hehe ), that is a good question!!!!...
They said it today in telecinco tv channel, the possible existance of a pre-contract with ferrari for next year, something like a secret contract, even they ask Ecclestone for this possible "secret"pre-contract and he said that this could be amazing for Alonso's career(logic) ..But well lets see if tomorrows race ends satisfactory for alonso(1rst)..
May be with all new regulations etc, renault is better than ferrari......... what is absolutely true, is that renault is one of the best f1teams nowadays, and probably if Alonso moves to another f1 team (except ferrari)could not be a good idea.

My predictions where right!!!!! , Fernando Alonso is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent qualifying sessions, POLE POSITION for Alonso....and 1rst place of the race=winner F,Alonso.
Fernando Alonso the first Spanish pilot to lead the championship, simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!
    Aupa FERNANDO ALONSO

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

The rumors about Fernando Alonso going to Ferrari are getting louder, specially in Italy it seems, but Flavio Briatore said that for that to happen, Schumacher needs to abandon Ferrari since the german doens't want Alonso in the team.

But most interesting are the words from JEAN TODJ (Ferrari's manager) in an interview for La Gazzetta dello Sport: upon questioning about Fernando sigining for Ferrari he says... "If you ask me if Fernando is the best pilot in Formula One, the answer is yes, and of course I would like that in the future he would be with us"

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

Anyone who has been to a GP race in the past 2 years will tell you that Ferrari is becoming larger than Formula 1 itself.. and Schumi is larger than both.. Sad but true.

Anyway, way to go Alonso I hope he wins this year along with Renault.

    Ecclestone, Ferrari... SCREW YOU BOTH

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

Good race, again bravo to Renault and Alonso.. Was good to see the Toyota's doing well too, and again Red Bull collecting points with two solid drives from the drivers...Ferrari under achieved...again...Shumi didn'd seem to care.. at least Rubins drove the socks off it till he couldn't drive it anymore.. zero effort

It's beginning to look like a huge mistake for Ferrari to stay with Bridgestone...not only were the tires slow, they wore faster than Michelins. I thought all things considered Shuie drove a well-judged race. Looks like Rubens had to retire because he pushed the tires too hard.

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

Stay with Bridegestone? Ferrari owes last years title to the Bridgestones tires alone they were miles aways from the Michelins. This year, the Michelins seem to be performing very competitive. Lets see when Ferrari rolls out the F2005 what their performance is, but I doubt they will have the advantage of last year though.
As to Ruben's early wear, it wasn't his or the tire's fault, he had an aerodinamic problem with the rear which caused excessive oversteer causing early wear of the rears to the point of having to retire towards the end. Ruben is doing a great job IMO, better than Schummi anyway.

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

    agreed carlos,
bari looks very commited, and as you said he had an aerodynamic problem which was infact debris lodged in the rear wing. Lets wait and see what they are like in Bahrain, i cant wait untill they let Luizzi drive for RBR.

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

im just glad that ferrari isnt doing 1-2s in every race anymore.

the last few years have been a bit rediculous

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

Congratulations to Renault and Spain for a fantastic drive from Alonso, and a well deserved victory.

The race was a bit boring a first, but picked up the pace towards the end, especially the Fisi/Webber incident (Fisi's fault IMO)

Renault is looking really strong this year, and have two of the best drivers. But I think Alonso will be the one challenging for the championship, and Renault should also be very strong in the constructors championship.

Even though I have been a Ferrari fan since 1992 (when Ferrari sucked!), I think it's great to see them struggling a little bit this year. Maybe they'll stop being so arrogant as they have become the last few years. Neither driver looks very motivated, and I think they both should have retired last year.

The F2005 should turn things around a bit, maybe they'll be able to qualify in the top 10 But is it enough to beat Renault, that is the question.

Roll on Bahrain and the introduction of the F2005..

Crappy tires will do that to you. And I don't think either one is ready to retire. If there is one driver in the field who should hang up his gloves, it is JV, IMO.

    Gary

    Re: F1 Malaysian GP

The fisi/webber incident was interesting... so Fisi started it all buy diving down the inside of webber...who stated that he thought fisi would go straight on and miss the corner....so whay the hell did try to defend his line on the outside and squeeze fisi... Fisi may have been guilty of a stupid move but IMO Webber put himself out... Kimi had the same situation earlier in the race...what did he do?... he left the guy to slide wide and ducked underneath him..
