Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

Confirmed my order today for my 997 carrera S. June05 Build My spec is:
    Midnight blue Met
    Full black leather
    -20MM Sports Suspension
    Short shifter
    Sports Seats
    Sports Chrono
Thicker sports S/Wheel in smooth leather
    Sunroof
Rear Wiper (needed in the UK - it rains a lot over here)
    Chrome Tail Pipes

I hope the -20MM turns outs OK as this has taken weeks to decide. Tryin to spec a car from a booklet aint easy especially when some options are not even pictured.

What do you guys think? any comments are appreciated + or -

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

Oh forgot also chosen Instrument dials in Black

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

Are you sure you really want -20mm on UK roads?

I stuck with PASM on my car and I have enough trouble grounding out the underside of the front spoiler on speed humps as it is. 10mm less and I think I'd have lost it by now!

Ride may also be a problem - UK roads are nowhere near as smooth as German Autobahns. I think you'd start to suffer on any journey longer than an hour.

Just my opinion - I've never driven a -20mm chasis, so I've no direct experience.

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

Nice spec matey ,i nearly ordered -20mm but wasnt brave enough ,hardly any uk cars have -20mm,so will be quite a unique car. Also havent seen many dark blue 997s but i reckon it will look great.I would probably get the Nav and phone as i found both well worth the money ,and will help resale value

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

I find the suspension in sports mode (Sport Chrono) shockingly unforgivable on London roads, so I can't imagine what -20mm will be like. I'd really think if not twice, then three times before choosing it unless of course you plan on tracking.

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

ACA, have you experienced -20mm option at your dealership and around your place? The option would be great if you plan to race on weekends, otherwise it might be a bit harsh on everyday roads. I shouldn't tell you that because I've never tried the option myself. My dealer has a triple black 997S with the -20mm option in his shop. He didn't want me to drive it along or around the area pretending that I would be so displeased with the driveability, that I would run away without buying any of his 911s.

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

Do you want to track the car a lot ?

-ve You actually lose traction on corners where there are uneven surfaces.
-ve Most ppl want PASM so your resale may be affected

+ve -20mm makes the car look longer and sleeker.
+ve Lim slip diff. This should be on the PASM car too.

Also, I read somewhere that the short shifter is a bit more notchy to use. I'd speak to someone who has it.

I'm planning on a Sept delivery - UK 55 plate. Consider hanging on a bit longer for the newer plate.

    My Spec:
    - GT Silver (changed my mind yet again)
    - Leather interior in Black
    - 407 19 inch SportDesign wheel
    - 567 Windscreen with grey top tint
    - P12 Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor
    - 650 Electric slide/tilt sunroof
    - XLF Sports exhaust system
    - 640 Sport Chrono Package Plus
    - 454 Cruise control
    - P01 Adaptive sports seat
    - 342 Heated seats
    - XPA Thicker three-spoke sports steering wheel in smooth leather
    - 680 BOSE Surround Sound System
    - 692 CDC-4 six disc CD autochanger
    - 670 Navigation module for PCM
    - 666 Telephone module

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

    profile of -20mm ???

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

No unfortunately I havn't tried it, there are apparently no UK demo cars in any OPC's fitted with -20MM. However, I am used to stiff suspension setups on my previous cars.968club Sport, 993carrera H&R coil over kit fitted etc I am taking a chance, if it proves to be too uncompramising a ride I will sell and start again a go for PASM. I think that ride height may be more of an issue for me than a low comfort level. In the past I found that speed bumps have to be taken at a snail pace to clear without damage.

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

ACA, I understand your point. If you're used with stiff suspension, I think that -20mm option would please you indeed. The only think to look over are speed bumps placed sparsely. I can tell you the car looks like a beast and makes its effect next to an S or a standard 911.

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

My car arrives next month and my OPC said under no circumstances get the -20mm in the UK. Appartently apart from the ride the resale will be clobbered! I wasn't brave enough so have ordered a Caterham CSR as well for track days.

I find it inappropriate if not outrageous that a dealer doesn't want you to test drive a specific model.
These guys are sales persons, nothing less, nothing more, they are not supposed to know your driving style, preferences, etc.
    ACA,
Yes, it's true, PASM being THE novelty on the 997, a sport suspension 997 might not be as easy to resale.
Then again, there will always be a clientele for it, just like there is currently a clientele for 996 with sport suspension X74 (-30 mm).
These are people who want the ultimate track/ road compromise, a mini GT3 with PSM, bose, reaer seats, sunroof, etc.
Having said that, judging by the cars you've owned, my advice is Go for it

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

You're right Fanch, my salesperson is an *s*hole. He sold me a car and doesn't ever wave me when I come to make a visit at the shop; maybe because I sympathise with his colleague [or competitor]...
Apart from that, I agree with Fanch: ACA, if you're accustomized with stiff suspension, there's no reason to get apprehensive about your choice. As Fanch, said, you shouldn't worry for an eventual resale of your car; there's a market for every car type. In my point of view, having the -20mm option makes your car very special.

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

Thanks for all your comments. I am sticking with the -20mm option. For me I am hoping it will make the car highly focused and provide masses of feedback which is what I like. For me PASM in normal felt too soft and I would always have it set to sport prog. So it seems logical to go for -20mm which I believe the spring and damper rates are more balanced. With regard to resale there was a 997s with -20mm in OPC silverstone and it sold within 1 week and was listed for same price as PASM 997S. I know that if the 997GT3 was available that would be my 1st choice Porsche even over a 997TT, guess 997S with -20mm will be the next best thing. I will report to this forum how it turns out!

Re: Done it! at last - placed my 997S order

    ACA

Good spec - just watch out for items like Chrome Pipes and Exclusive options (not sure if black instruments is one) - likely to delay build of car..
