    Nordslcheife 8:22 mins Boxster S

    For the first time I had the change yesterday to take a Boxster around the Nordschleife and was pretty happy with the time 8:22. It must be really insane to take your car around that track must faster, though I am perfectly aware it is possible.

    Sad that the above was done in my livingroom on the PS2 with the new GT4 game . I really need to go to this track, not that I belive I can take my car around the track under 9 mins. In fact I am not even sure I would time it.

    Just to make sure, the game features a RUF3400. Porsche is not officially involved.

    Is it really that good, gt4???...I mean, yes they are ruf cars, but they are exactly the same models as in gt3... ..I believe grafics are much better, people have told me gt4 makes the ps2 use the 90something% of all its graphics resources.
    Is there any damage in the casrs??

    No car damage, thus my reluctance to purchase. Too easy to knock other cars out of the way and gain position.

    I much prefer TOCA Race Driver 2 WITH car damage. You pay the price for banging heads with the other drivers.

    there's no damage because most car makers wont let them put damage in the game, it all has to do with licensing. And there are few older RUF's in the game also

    The main thing that really ticked me off was that i couldn't add a turbo to the RGT, like i could in gran turismo 3

    some carmakers allow damage, others won't allow it.

    so they had to make all the cars without damage, otherwise it would be silly if only some cars could recieve damage...

    Just bought and played GT4 with a Logitech wheel (not the top wheel, but a brand new Rally-thing.)
    That's probably the biggest waste of money I've tried in a long time.
    I tried the Ruf Boxster, and it's an absolute joke how the car reacts on the Nordschleife. It's like driving a Hovercraft!
    It slips and slides almost from the get-go, on dry tarmac - impossible to drive really fast IMO.
    I dont even think these GT4 guys have SEEN a Ruf Boxster, let alone driven one...

    I heard that danish Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen drove a Bentley similar to his own in GT4, and told the press that the simulated car was SOOO like the real thing it was scary. I'm thinking he's on the Sony payroll?

    IMO the normal controller works a lot better than a wheel, even tho u dont get the "real" feeling with a controller.

    What experiences have you guys had?

    Just did an 8:50 first time in the Boxster although I did put it up to full hp and used the controller.

    I quite like the game!

    I have the game aswell. Amazing how fun it is, Currently 33% done. Going to lap the Ring in a RUF 3400S now

    I heard the same comments from Robert Lechner, who has participated and won the 24hrs at the Ring for Zakspeed already. He in fact compared the NSX both in reality and in the game!

    Haven't tried the game yet but this is in fact the first time I consider buying a PS2!

    I dunno if you all have a different GT4 game than me, or own reallife Boxsters that handle like a piece of soap, but apart from the stunning environment and graphics, the game's driving realism is mediocre at best. The handling of the cars is as far from reality as you can get, unless the top model Logitech GT4 wheel makes all the difference in the world.

    It does . You also have to turn off traction control to get more realistic handling and they still mostly understeer a bit much, but I'm convinced this is the closest thing to actually being out on the track. Get the new wheel, set it up on a solid table right in front of the tv and use the in car view. Then go to the 'ring and have a blast. You'll feel the bumps through the wheel and it will build pressure as you take a turn which will lighten if you start to spin. As you probably know, the new wheel has 900 degrees of rotation so it's 2.5 turns to lock like in a real car. By the way, I played GT3 without a wheel and while nice, it doesn't compare at all to GT4 with the new wheel.

    I'm really surprised that people based their decision on buying the game by damage. Damage doesn't interest me at all, I mean ideally if you were really out on the track you don't want to hurt the car, right? So just don't hit the walls, lol. Any amount of time they spend on adding damage would be better spent working on the handling to get that even more realistic imho. I could understand if the game was online and multiplayer because you don't want people to gain position by running into you, but it's just vs the computer so it's more about controlling yourself to keep that part of the game realistic.

    07:56.206 with the old RUF BTR (no driving aids, boosted HP etc)

    I bought a PS2 purely to play GT4.. I don't regret it at all... Its a great game!,

    Been getting used to the cars and tuning them up etc.. I have a RUF CTR with 900 bhp +...its almost undrivable with road tyres on..

    Won an EVO 2 190E race car.. that flies, done a 7:20 round the Nurburgring standard and I made a few bad turns..
