    Re: GSM phone -- UPDATE

I must say that the intigrated GSM Phone operates VERY well and the sound quality is excellent in both directions.
One nice feature is how answer, hang up, phonebook are displayed in the OBC under the tach, an area your use to looking at all the time as you drive.
Someone did their homework and got it right!
    Option 666 is highly recomended!!!

    Re: GSM phone -- UPDATE

I've been using car handsfree bluetooth for 3 years, and have never had any issues at all....The connectivity is totally seemless from handset to car kit (back to handset if you switch off the car.) I originally had the Parrot system, but my porsche will have the latest Motorola BLNC system (released last week)....This is the first system to offer digit dial (you say a phone number and it dials)its fully interactive.....I wouldn't dream of purchasing the Porsche system (it's antiquated by comparison) The Motorola's chrome module will integrate very nicely inside the car (i'll post a couple of pics when its installed)

I received the following email from my dealer. Apparently he received a communication from PCNA:

We are unable to sell the cradle system at this time due to
a legal issue involving our supplier. It is not clear at this time when or if this will be resolved.

We do not currently offer a retrofit of the faceplate with
the GSM slot. We are investigating this and if demand warrants we will develop something.

    Per SamG from Rennlist:

"Glad to her you got the phone operating. I'm in the radio communication business and I just read an interesting article in one of my trade papers, RCR Wireless News, that Telematics company Cellport Systems, is suing PNA for patent infringement. The article states:

Cellport has also filed similar lawsuits against Bury GmbH & Co., THB USA Inc. and Henry Bury Mielec Sp. The lawsuit, filed in Maryland Federal District Court, seeks damages and an injunction prohibiting Porsche and the other three companies from using its technology without authorization.
the technology in question is Cellport's Personal Telematics architecture, which conects a variety of wireless handsets with a standard vehicle interface for hands-free calling and telmatics applications.
"THB Bury is not licensed to use our technology, yet Porsche is supplying their dealers with Bury's equipment in the US," said Pat Kennedy, ceo of Cellport Systems. "In order to protect out patents and enforce our rights, we are pursuing these court actions against all four parties."

Has anyone seen this interface offered by your local dealer? I found more info on Cellport at www.cellport.com."

I have to agree that the function of the GSM phone module and multifunction steering wheel is well thought out. The voice quality particularly the microphone in the steering column works quite well. The people on the other end of the line always remark that my voice is pretty clear. It is certainly better than the speakerphone on my cellphone...

I also recommend option 666. Although it does kinda suck in the US being tied into GSM. Particularly since neither Cingular or T-mobile will allow "cloning" of SIM cards.

Thanks. Its time for me to move on!

    Motorola Bluetooth Installed

I had the Motorola bluetooth (BLNC IHF1000) car kit installed yesterday. It has a few quirks but seems to work pretty well. You can dial by number - say the number and then it dials. Or you can dial by name -- say the name of a contact in your phone address book and it then dials it.
I plan to put it through the paces this weekend to really see if it lives up to the hype. One complaint came from a caller on the other end who said the sound was a bit "tinny" but that may be due to the motorola phone versus the car kit.

    I'll keep you posted.

By the way, i'm still pissed i can't get an integrated phone.

    Re: GSM phone -- UPDATE

GG pleace tell me how is your PCM faceplate the GSM card slot is missinG? what does your pcm has in that location do you have any pics?

I ordered it as a retrofit as i mention in my thread with cost 2000 euros including instalation and cd changer
and now they tell me they should check if my car has oprical fibres installed ,if not then it is 750,00 more euros for me and i got mad .if it hasnt the fibred installed i will not install this thing not 2750 for a phone and a cd chanher that Porsche shouts that it has been pre installed and its ready for a simple install this is just crap

    Re: GSM phone -- UPDATE

I'll send you a picture of my PCM faceplate. Also, Porsche informed me this week that a retrofit was not currently possible. Depending on the level of demand they would decide whether to offer a retrofit.

I probably would have agreed with you a few weeks ago, but now that I have the car and using PO's integrated system, I'm nothing but impressed by its use and would recommend it to anyone specking a new car. Only today I made 4 calls from my sim card address book, with all the information and searches displayed on the dash (and PCM) and didn't once need to look away from the road.
IMO it doesn't get much easier than that. Only flaw is that the dupe sim cards promised by Orange and O2 have not been made available as yet.
