    Question for those with multi-function steering wheel...

    Those of you who have the multi-function steering wheel, how often do you use it's multi-function capabilities and what for?

    I added it to my order but I somehow keep thinking about the thumbs grip of the sports one. After reading that it cannot ever be used to change stations (at least in a easy way) I'm having seconds thoughts about it.

    So, if you have one, how do you rate it, how often you use it and what for?

    I use it 75 percent of the time I manage PCM functions. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 7. Best function is the radio mute--very quick & smart for my fast talking wife, who usually interrupts my love of music.

    I use it nearly 90% of the time. I unfortunately have to talk on the phone with the hospitals very frequently and thew MFSW integrates the GSM phone module for handsfree use very well. I also think it is very useful with the CD changer. I almost never listen to the radio with the exception of NPR Morning Edition and All Things Considered so changing radio stations is never really an issue...

    Highly recommended...especially with the GSM phone module

    Holminator!!! That was really funny.

    I did not opt for multifunction but i regret it a lot. I had it in my BMW and i was used to it. Now i missed it greatly!!.

    Do opt for that, i wonder if i can have it as a retrofit

    PS> i wonder if the mute function will be compatible with my girlfriends. That would be a life saver!!!

    I use it mainly when I have a passenger in the car - it's very easy to change volume or track on the CD. It's also useful for the mobile phone.

    Have to say as well that I so much prefer the multi function steering wheel to the standard S wheel which I think looks awful.

    Yes, in terms of design, I like the multi-function much better than the sports one. It's just that nice little thumbs grip/rest that is making me having second thoughs. I had it on my 986 and really loved it... Wish they made a multi-function with thumb grips.

    Got say I find it more dangerous using the steering wheel controls than the PCM itself? Dont know why but seem to have nearly hit more kerbs using the wheel!!!!

    That said its a cool gadget!

    I agree I think the Multi-Function looks better. However I do seem to use the PCM rather than the buttons on the steering wheel. I find the scroll nature of the Volume too slow. I am used to have more like rocker type switches (BMW) for both volume and changing CD Tracks. I do not find it that easy to change tracks on the steering wheel i.e. I need to make sure that the PCM is on Audio and Track list selected (I may be doing something wrong!) and then I can use the right hand scroll button. Great for accepting and rejecting telephone calls.

    I'd pay a lot more for an option that did this!!! Would have to be removable though... like on a keychain. Would have saved me a lot in attorney fees

    I mainly use the tel buttons and volume control on the wheel, I like to control all my phone book searches via the stalk which I find far simpler. I think the wheel is to complicated for CD and radio station stages (previous BMW was very simple) and use PCM instead. I'm happy with the look and feel over the standard S wheel and have no regrets in ordering.
    I'd recommend to anyone specking a car.
