Lovely car - interesting to read the history.
Coincidentally this was published online in Wheels, one of the Australian motoring magazines, just 7 days ago.

OT: The cooperation between Porsche and Mercedes could have continued, as initially the Porsche SUV (what became the Cayenne) was supposed to be built in cooperation with Mercedes but the deal fell apart and Mercedes went ahead building the first ML.
I think those 80's and early 90's super/cult cars are the next to really really take off. The things guys in their mid 30's to mid 40's grew up idolizing.
Man during those times I wanted a 300e AMG Hammer, a Yellowbird and a Koenig Testarossa. I'd still happily have any of those three and the 1st and third would probably be really cool again (the middle one has ALWAYS been cool).

pride355:Congrats with the purchase of your new baby Frank. It's a good mark in Mercedes history. There were very nice 500E car chases in the movie Taxi, against Peugeot.
I'm a very big fan of W124 Mercedes models. We used to have 1990 230E and 1994 E200 (the last facelifted model) which we bought brand new at that time. IMO, it is the best E class in its history.
I really like young classic Mercedes. I have bought 1997 SL320 (R129) with a friend last month. I'm also big fan of W126/C126 and W140/C140. Those were the times, when Mercedes were over engineered.
+100%.
Nice one Frank!
I have a w124 myself, a 230E. It was bought new by my mum in 1992. The car has only made 100.000 km in 24 years.
Of course it cannot be compared to a 500E but this car means a lot as I used to be driven to school in it. I feel nostalgic each time I drive the car.
So congrats on your purchase.
The photograph posted above is so cool. I just love these old pics. All these brand new 964... each of them worth more than they cost new if they're still in good shape.
fritz:m4ever:Very cool car ! Congrats Porker .

I like the way the cars were segregated.
Is that Turbo on the left in the pic being jump started?
PS: Just noticed that they managed to get the one 928 which had been built that day into the pic.

Actually I count 3 x 928!

After you presented me with a challenge I enlarged the shot and got up to 4.
Must have been a good day for 928s.

You are right... I count 4, too. I didn't get the one parked reverse! ;)

I went to pick-up the car yesterday, I had a 200km drive over the German autobahn in order to drop the car off at my workshop to have it checked, serviced and detailed. I was really surprised by the driving experience it serves up, it still does 260km/h easily whilst blowing cool AC, amazing for a 25 yr old car. In fact as a car in which to travel it proved to be more comfortable than the 2014 BMW-Alpina in which we picked the car up. Really thrilled with the car, looking forward to pick it up in a week and take it to Italy.
