Let's See The Real Thing Already!

I'm getting a bit tired of the Cayman Tease Factor. In one particularly feverish bit of surfing I wound up at a Porsche Germany pasword protected gateway to the Porsche Dealer's Site, through which, one was led to believe, one could find pictures of the new car.

Surely someone on this forum knows this portal and its password, and could retrieve what we all would like to see?

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

The dealers don't have any official pictures yet but it can't be excluded that the bosses of some dealerships already saw the pictures.
As far as I heard, there is a meeting of german Porsche dealership leaders tomorrow in Munich and I'm pretty sure they're gonna see the Cayman pictures but I doubt they will be allowed to take them home with them.

Just pictures RC, why won't they show them the real thing? How many Caymans have already been produced? 100? or more?

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

i hear there aren't any pictures on the dealer's site, too
just an expanded version of the public site

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

Yes the whole thing where they tease you for months and let out tiny bits of info gets tiring. Same thing happened when the Cayenne was about to be released.

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

Porsche marketing thinks that this marketing strategy is a good thing. Personally, I think this is kiddy play.
C'mon, we're talking about a car for 60 grand or more, not a TV soap opera where people are curiously awaiting the next episode to see if the mother married her stepbrother who is actually her father and her brother's gay lover...

I love Porsche cars but I think that Porsche advertisement and marketing is very bad. I bought 6 cars over the past 8 years and I didn't like one single Porsche ad. They are boring, they usually don't have much to do with the car itself. If Porsche thinks that this kind of marketing and advertisement is good and gets them customers. Fine. But I can tell them for sure that I didn't buy ONE SINGLE Porsche because of the ads I saw. On the contrary, they usually left a bad taste on my tongue.

The current Cayman teaser is similar to the Cayenne teaser. Horrible. C'mon, we're adults, people who spend a lot of hard earned money for a car. If they want to sell us a product, they better show it to us from the start. The teaser does only one thing in my opinion: it takes away a lot of the excitement of the car itself.

If people like me and you don't like such teasers, why does Porsche do this? Well: they sold so many cars in the past and their logic seems to be that if the customers buy the products, they're happy with how they're advertised. Well, maybe the products are just THAT good that even bad advertisement and marketing can't hurt them.

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

I received the Cayenne mailer, and now the Cayman mailer; who do they think they're talking to? Someone who wants to sign up to be called by a dealer?

I chucked them all in the garbage; they're insulting.

    EXACTLY.

i completely agree with you guys, this isnt a movie premiere or some kind of damn surprise.

if i am going to think about buying a car, i better be able to see it and ponder it for awhile, this teaser bullshit is really pretentious and intellectually insulting.

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

RC and Moogle are totally correct. This stuff is getting very annoying.....and with anothers years wait I may actually be over the excitement and headed for something else.

    When is the Frankfurt Exhibiition?

I believe September.....with actual US availability being spring 2006.

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

I read that Porsche will reveal the Cayman at the Frankfurt Show...but there is no way in hell they can drag it out until september...is there? :?

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

These are the timelines mentioned by the manager of Porsche Cars GB last November (and the first one turned out to be correct!):

    Feb 23rd Announcement
May 23rd Presented to the Press
    Nov 2005 launch.

    Just think.....

If Porsche would not have produced a sucky video tease....
Saved the money spent finding the name "Cayman" and just used its internal number........
Saved the money spent on focus groups where they didn't listen to anyone anyway......

We could probably have had our nice C7S coupe here a lot sooner, at a better price, with many happy owners. The wonders of it all......

When should they come out with the pricing?.....trying to think back for the 997 and 987 but can't remember when pricing was actually announced for those two. Maybe the May date?

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

Yes, I would say the May date for pricing and spec. With the 987, I got the pricing and a small brochure through the post on the day that Porsche released the first pictures to the press.

Re: Let's See The Real Thing Already!

Porsche may be leaving themselves as much latitude as possible. Porsche may have more than one scenario in mind and, based on public response, may change their approach. Personally, I see the C7S at 295hp, $65K nicely optioned; the C7CS with 305hp pro'ly 65K zero options available; and the C7 base with 280hp at $54K plus options. We still don'tknow what options will be standard on the "S".
