Yes, exactly like in my new Q7 Smiley

My sister-in-law complains about using the virtual cockpit at night. When she uses the navigation system there is too much action. The eyes are always distracted even if the display is as dark as possible. Her solution: using the “always facing north” ("nordweisend") but even than she is not happy.

I like it at night, don't have any issues. Your sister-in-law is aware that she can switch the navigation to the left part of the display only? No more distractions. Smiley Actually, she can switch the display to a completely different thing, the voice navigation still works, so do the directions on the right.

Yes. All I want to say that for some people the old school integration of the nav screen can be the better solution. Untill now I didn't use one of her cars or any Audi with a virtual cockpit, so no personal opinion.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

The Virtual Cockpit can be adapted in a way that is isn't intrusive at all if you wish to do so. People just need to play around with the various options and setups. I agree however that Audi needs to offer more GUI variations to satisfy different tastes and vision oddities.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

A tool to personalize your Virtual Cocpit on the PC would be great (Porsche cluster anyone?) but I think there may be legality issues as one could design his too distracting even if limitations are present in the software. Maybe speedo clusters need a homologation for street use and if so, I'm sure the same goes for different virtual GUIs. Basically all manufacturers use the a speedo cluster in more than one model.

There was one feature of Saabs that I loved (and really spoke to being an aircraft manufacturer first and foremost). You could dim not just the instrument cluster (fairly common) but every light on the dash. It made rural night driving some much more relaxing and safer. Also wonderful for your night vision.

Ferrari actually was pretty ahead with digital displays in their models, I wonder why they haven't completely digitized it yet.

the worst electrics imaginable could be found in my (beloved) mini innocenti de tomaso of the mid eighties. the company which made them was called lucas, also dubbed 'the inventor of darkness'::::))))))

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

You owned a Mini Innocenti de Tomaso? Wow. A friend of mine had one while I had a Fiat 127 Sport (I shoveled rust by the handful from inside the door panels after only one year of ownership angry). Was quite fun to drive and it had only 75 hp (car weight was only 700 kg though...).

For what it's worth, Joseph Lucas was the Prince of Darkness. Smiley

Lucas probably competed with Magneti Marelli, manufacturer of my Alfa's electrics/electronics, for the Innocenti Mini supply contract.  The car buyers would have lost out regardless of which of them got the contract.  Smiley

I like to have analog rev counter. Smiley However, Audi's virtual cockpit is very nice. BMW is not bad either.
