    Boost on X50

    I want to squeeze a bit more power out of my 996tt X50, but there are so many tuning companies with varying max set boost pressures. Does anyone know or had theirs converted with no problems that could give me some advise on what the max safe boost pressure would be and also what the max rpm would be because some companies are uping that too.

    the GT2 is just an X50 running another .2 bar

    Max boost is very dependent on the quality of fuel. You can run much higher boost with racing fuel, assuming that the fuel injectors and related gear can supply adequate amounts of that fuel to keep up with the additional air intake.

    The best fuel grade in the uk that is redally available is shell optimax at 98ron

    I would be surprised if there were not some specialty places to buy racing fuel. In the US, we have the worst kind of laws and we have it (if you're willing to look for it). Of course, our fuel costs are lower and racing fuel costs more than double of Premium.

    Anyways, with 98RON (I think equivalent to our 93 here), I wouldn't use much more than 1.2 or 1.3Bar...

    Luckily, the 996TT has a computer which should not allow any detonation to occur which is the reason one shouldn't use higher boost without higher octane (and better fuel delivery to the cylinder)...

    At Summit Point this past weekend, on the older better, track with longer straight, I saw 0.9 bar using a mixture of 93 and 100 octane (US) fuel. Speed was about 140mph.

    BTW - the price at the track on 93 octane was $2.99, and 100 octane was $4.50 a gallon. 110 (leaded - bad for cats) was $7.50 per gallon!

    I was there at Summit Point this weekend, RSA. What color is your car? I saw a white GT-3 lapping, but I only spent an hour or so there.

    I was in the white run group in a lapis blue twin turbo X50, with no other modifications - too much understeer - although I could easily catch that nice white GT3 on the straights. Need better tires, 18" wheels, suspension, etc...money pit in my future...once again!

    BTW - That old track at Summit Point is one of my favorites -am I nuts?

    Well its a nice track to let the X50 stretch its legs. That straight must be quite a rush.

    The little carousel section is cool too. I think I saw you entering the pit area as I was leaving- I saw a dark blue 911 entering, exhaust sounded real nice.

    Get the Europipe Stage 2 exhaust. It has 100 cell cats and 70mm pipes. I got 0.1 bar increase across the board on my non-X50 Turbo after installing the Europipe Stage 2. That might not qualify as "a bit" more power, and if not then I'd suggest Evolution Motor Sports ECU upgrade. The GIAC tuning is world class. You can have Stage 3 with the ECU upgrade and Europipe exhaust...making 552 hp and 563 on the torque. Very fast...

    I have the Stage 2 Hammer upgrade with Europipe Stage 2 Loud on my '02 Turbo.
