    They're apparently available now for special applications like golf carts and such.

    The availability for cars is thought to be 10 years away due to noise complications that yet need to be solved.

    Interesting concept, when I saw the press information for the first time a few weeks ago, I was offended by the looks. But then I said to myself: if a company succeeds in implementing this highly interesting concept to "normal" looking rims and tires, it would be a real breakthrough. Unfortunately I can't imagine how this could be done but I'm no engineer.

    Just thought of somthing, wouldnt rocks be able to get wedged in there and make the wheel unbalanced?

    On this picture, they show a proto version, just to have an idea on how functions the tire.
    In further stages, they will put a "cover", and the tire will have the same aspect as the one you have your car today.
    The biggest problem is not with the rocks, but with the water, actualy.

    Since it's cold here at the moment, I was considering potential problems with snow and ice build-up causing a big balance problem. It already happens sometimes here with normal wheels and tires when some partly-melted snow re-freezes on the inside of the rim.

    and imagine for a sports car, can't be applicable.
    Or with a dramatic looking wheel. Will you accept a 15 or 16 inch diam. wheel ? The center wheel, in alloy for example can't have a bigger diameter to allow the hysteresis of the rubber.

    If the Tweel were able to offer dramatically improved function, better cornering with improved compliance for example, I believe our appreciation for the form would eventually follow the improved function.

    I do believe there could be quite interesting design solutions - in fact you could either hide it to make it resemble the looks of current tires or place it very prominently.

    Have to find out more about it!
