    Mike,
Here's what prices are like in the UK for 3 year old cars:

    M3 Coupe - Cost New Pounds39,340 Value Now Pounds28,190 Depreciation = 28%
    Boxster 2.7 - Cost New Pounds31,630 Value Now Pounds26,535 Depreciation = 16%
    996 C2 - Cost New Pounds56,130 Value Now Pounds47,275 Depreciation = 16%

Where are those figures from? Although I agree that Porsches hold their value better than BMWs in the UK, 16% for the Porsches seems far too good compared to the prices I see.

    Re: Boxster Coupe/Cayman/C7S Gets A 3.4l Engine

Prices are from www.parkers.co.uk for 02 plate cars.

    Re: Boxster Coupe/Cayman/C7S Gets A 3.4l Engine

16% depreciation is completely misleading. Each 2.7 car needs 5 grand spending on it to give it any resale at all., so the new price is NOT the same as basic list.

Yes, i was wondering how they handle that.. I assume they are just giving the sale price and not stating the original price.

I am selling my 2001 986S at the moment, so have been looking at prices a lot. Taking 16% off the base 38k price of an S gives 32k, you wont find any 2002 S's going for anywhere near that, let alone 16% off what they actually paid (probably 43k)

I would say depreciation on a boxster is about 30-35% off the original price. Which is still very good. I think autocar's figure is 28% and it is just about their best figure.

    Re: Boxster Coupe/Cayman/C7S Gets A 3.4l Engine

    Martin Tyler.....I agree totally.

Thanks for the figures. This is more like it. Porsche depreciation is much steeper than it used to be (even 3 years ago) across the whole model range, but still better than other marques. We need to blow this myth about UK depreciation being OK, its by far the largest cost of Porsche ownership. Its more expensive overall to own a 996 TT than a F360

    Re: Boxster Coupe/Cayman/C7S Gets A 3.4l Engine

I think the depreciation is very good for 1 or maybe 2 years, but once you get to 3 years, although still better than most, it starts to get closer to normal depreciation. Of course with the 997/987 here now that takes a bit more off the value of the older cars.

btw, you can get 360 spiders at nearly 30% off after 3 years too. Thats based on paying 120k (I have no idea how much over the base people usually end up paying on a Ferrari)

    Re: Boxster Coupe/Cayman/C7S Gets A 3.4l Engine

The choice of the 3.4 and the price point rumours coming out of the focus groups is very interesting.

If the Cayman coupe is to be marketed 'above' the Boxster, this would give the Cayman a reverse marketing approach to the 997, with cabrios costing more than coupes.
With the similarities of the Cayman to the Boxster and no opening top, what's the marketing catch - slightly quicker Boxster or cheaper 911?
I thought the whole marketing nitch for the Cayman was alternative to the Boxster for the fixed top crowd.
    What am I missing?
